Home Built or Pre-Built? What are The Key Advantages?

Building is much more exciting imo.....

I switched over since I could never match dji's image quality for the pricing.

I can beat the flight time and agility all day, but I cannot beat the camera experience that dji delivers.

I have alway carried my batteries on board if that matters in this conversation.

Good to know, about carrying your batteries. I have read that it is better to carry them at less than full charge, something like 60% level. Do you do anything special to yours? Have you ever been asked by the airlines about them?

As far as not being able to match DJI image quality, is it just the camera or is there more to it? How does the DJI Zenmuse X5S camera compare to what DJI offers?

What components are you building with?

DJI has some kind of super image stabilization that cannot be matched on their cameras. The quality can be beaten until you are in the air. (movement and control is where things change)

Batteries:
I aways carry them in my backpack. One place rubbed them with something. (I guess making sure they were not explosives, but I always inform what they are before entering security)

I always fly with my batteries dead(30% or less) since I want to live in-case they flame up ;).

There is now the Mavic Pro Platinum with some enhancements. The Mavic Pro II is supposedly coming, so the prices on the current models will come down. When the Platinum hits $800, I'm there.

As for shipping LiPo Batteries you really aren't allowed to carry loose lithium batteries, I generally put them in my laptop case though and have sometimes used enclosures that do no real task (might even be an all plastic XT60 with a switch on the side (DJI batteries shouldn't count as loose) so that they are no longer loos and are somewhat protected as well. TSA Pre-check helps as well. You might benefit from overnighting them to your location prior to departing if the airline is more strict than most.
