I'm very interested in getting into the quadcopter scene. I use to be into RC cars and trucks back in the 90's. I haven't flown anything except the RTF helicopters in the $30-$50 range. I got pretty good at controlling them, though the battery life isn't long enough to keep my attention. I'm willing to pay for a good quadcopter. The question is.... which brand should I get? (RTF) DJI? I'm thinking I want one that has GPS and auto pilot or stabilization (whatever its called) I'm not up on the terminology yet. So if I goof up the quadcopter won't run itself into the ground. Thanks

Also I'm going to ask a lot of questions because I don't know anything about these. Like I'm guessing they're not R/C because they go much further/higher than any car or truck I've seen. When you buy a RTF quadcopter, does it come with everything you need? Or do you need to buy extra stuff? camera, tx, rx, extenders? And is DJI the best you can buy?

I haven't flown the phantom or any RTF DJI stuff, but I've seen a ton of first timers' experiences online as well as some stuff in person and I'd say that the Phantom is the way to go if you want something that is all inclusive and just works - and is easy to get the hang of (and has all of those fall back features you want - return to home, position lock, etc.). The DJI stuff definitely has a ton of R&D behind it and they sell the most RTF copters it seems, so you get great bang for your buck based on size and sales volume. All of those features you want are there as well. They are radio controlled, but the Phantoms have a 300m range they say. You'd need to do some mods to get a longer range. Also - you'd want the Phantom Vision 2 to get the camera and everything already built in:

Hey, I need some help building a quadcopter. I have parts I am going to buy, and would like to learn how to build the quadcopter. I am open to critiques and really need help. I am going to apply for a prestigious high school and need help soon.

here is the parts, i just need help building it....

also if you know other parts that are about the same price and are better, tell me please..........

  1. DJI 450 flamewheel
  2. D2830-11 1000kv brushless motor
  3. RCTimer 30A SimonK ESC
  4. KK2.0 Multirotor LCD Flight Control Board w/ Updated Firmware
  5. Turnigy 9x 9ch Transmitter w/ Module and 8ch receiver
  6. Quad flyer Propeller 10”x4.7”
  7. Turnigy nano-tech 3000mAh 3S LiPo
  8. IMAX B6-AC Charger/Discharger 1-6 cells

Get a bag of five servo leads (male to male) to connect the receiver to the KK2. The KK2 does not come with them.

Also get a battery connector whip to solder to the integrated power distribution board on the frame. I think your battery comes with the molded keyed 4mm bullet connector (the long red two-barrel one).
