People have been asking for this topic for a while. I hadn't added it because I had a lot of other topics to try to fit in and I didn't want to clutter things too much. I feel like we have enough members now though where this will get a good amount of posts. Anyway, I'll start:
My name is Mike. I started this forum back in December of 2012 - almost 4 years ago now! Time flies! The two main reasons I started the forum were:
1. Other forums had way too many ads and were hard to read.
2. For such a new hobby (at the time), most other forums seemed to have way too many "don't you know how to use the search function?" type posts. I figured we could steer this forum into a more friendly environment, which I think we've done pretty well at.
At first, it was just me and a buddy posting, going back and forth and eventually others started showing up. I don't post as much as I used to, but I'm typically in the admin panel for a good time each day deleting spam and rejecting spam users - and making sure things are running smoothly.
I'm in my early 30's and by day, I'm a network engineer. I live in Orange County, CA - about 10 minutes from the beach - but I've never actually flown at the beach. I got into quadcopters with two friends in late 2011. We spent a lot of time and money trying to build something that would fly and never actually got anything in the air with very much control. Two of us eventually split off from the group and spent a bunch more money - this time with some success. But then we had a pretty bad crash and our $1200 QAV500 build broke into a bunch of pieces. At this point, builds were getting cheaper, so we split and built our own stuff.
Since then, I've had quite a few custom quads, built on quite a few boards (most builds were on CC3D, but also KK and Naza). I thought I was into aerial videography stuff at first, but quickly realized that with all of the changing laws and regulations, that was a pain. Video editing also takes up way more time than I have. As of late, I've been mostly flying smaller 250 and under "racing" style quads. I fly some LoS and some FPV depending on the day and location. I've also recently been super excited about the tiny whoop craze. Nothing like sitting on the couch and flying FPV around the house. No wind and no weather issues!! I have an inductrix, but I also just bought a bunch of eachine e010s to modify. Hopefully I'll actually have time to get a camera soldered onto one of those and the motors changed out.
Thanks for reading!
