Hex to powerful? or not

Hello,
I have built the following Hexacopter:
Tarot Iron Man 680
3dr Pixhawk w/3dr GPS
Motors - Multistar 4822 690kv
ztw spider 30amp opto ESC
Props = 12 x 4.5 (cheap plastic for now)
Turnigy 5000 30/40c 4S battery (two)
Taranis X8r receiver
All-up Weight with 2 batteries - 3364

I am relatively new. Have flown my 550 with APM2.6 for about 6 months and say the Tarot and had to have one. lol

Anyway, I cannot get the throttle even close to 50% for hovering. It's around 25 or 30 percent really difficult to hover. I added the second 4s battery in hope of weighing it down enough so that I could get the throttle where it needs to be. I want to be able to use Loiter and Drift mode, but until I can get my throttle up there, I cannot (tried it already and it shot up into the trees in my back yard, luckily only two broken props and skid on the landing gear.)

I've see video of other builds with my specs and and they seem to do fine so I must be doing something wrong or...not doing something I should be doing. The life of a noob! lol

Thanks,
Bill

Adjust your expo or throttle curve, this should be a pretty good endurance setup. The more power the better hahaha. you planning on putting a camera on it? Also if your equipment supports 3S you might do that. You should be able to adjust the modes for lower throttle.

30% is ideal for hovering, maybe lower, but you can never be too powerful (just look at the 250 racers xD) You jsut need to adjust the settings for your FCB.

Have you tried adding a brick? Maybe 2 bricks? Just a suggestion :|
Hahahahaha

If I not between 40 and 60% throttle, when I switch into Loiter mode, it shoots sky-high. I'll look into expo suggestion. I have not done that before. Google, here I come!

Is your GPS configured and working properly? If not, it may be sending the wrong signals to the FCB.

@Nathan, yes, the GPS is configured and works. If I put 10" props on it, it will Loiter fine. When I move to 12", I cannot get the throttle above 30% or so. I've adjusted THR_MID down to 400. Will see what that does.

I actually just bought some 12 x 3.8 CF props. Haven't tried them yet but I'm thinking that will do the trick and I'll be able to bring my THR_MID back to it normal setting.
