Hi from South Africa everyone!
My dad has been involved in drones for a while now and he has managed to infect me with the craze when I flew his 3DR Solo (which I flicked to sport mode and flew at breakneck speed around the grounds). I mentioned an interest in drone racing once I had flown his and started doing some research and as a surprise, he bought me a Chinese knock-off of a ZMR X210 frame (Carbon Fibre) and I am now just jumping head first into it. I decided to build my own because, while I know that I will probably have higher repair costs and more crashes, I would like to build my own so that I have an in depth knowledge of my quad as well as what it requires of me. I have flown a few others before, so I guess I am not a complete noob! I did however, struggle to find a good guide on an X210 on the interwebs and I was wondering if some of you experts could have a look at it and give good advice/ recommendations regarding it. I am only a teenager in my final year of school so keep in mind that I do not have the cash to drop on the best gear. I am almost going for a cheap, beginner X210 that I can get used to and then I would move up in the future. Take a look!
ZMR X210:
Frame: Realacc X210
PDB: Matek PDB-XT60
Flight Controller: AfroFlight Naze32 Rev6 Acro
Motors: DYS 1806 2300KV (Available on Banggood too)
Props: Gemfan 5045 3 Blade (Available on Banggood too)
Radio: Turnigy 9X Pro
VTX: Eachine TS5823 SMA
FPV Camera: Sony CCD 800TVL
RX: FrSky DJT Combo Pack
VTX Antenna: Moy FPV Clover SMA
Radio Battery: Zippy Flightmax 1000mAh 3S1P
ESCs: AfroESC 12A Ultralight
I will admit that I have not thought about a VTX receiver because as much as I would love to drop right into FPV, I think learning to fly LOS would be a great start but also because I have no idea what a good, cost effective FPV setup would be. Any suggestions? (Please no FatSharks, they cost more than the entire quad with transmitter!)
All in all, the whole thing is looking at around $250 (Excluding transmitter case and batteries) which to me is reasonable for a super beginner quad. I saw a YouTube video where the guy built a really nice ZMR X250 for under $200 but seeing as I am getting an X210 frame, I had to adapt (Plus I really torture myself by looking at the nicer things).
What do you all think? I would love some advice, guidance or information or perhaps even your experiences to a beginner quad pilot.
Thanks!
