Not sure but even if the quad acts as a wifi access point doesn't mean it necessarily has the software open to be reconfigured easily

^^ can see some info about how some quads/drones can be connected to and reconfigured/controlled here.

Should be straight-forward, have you downloaded the Red 5 app from Google Play? Password will be in your instructions

Hey there thanks for that I enjoyed watching that. Like I say open network really how can they sell them like that first time you go to use it someones nicked it or wiped you out lol

Glad you enjoyed it was a good talk for sure, seen a few good defcon ones ("explorations in data destruction" and "Steal Everything, Kill Everyone, Cause Total Financial Ruin!" were both pretty entertaining and informative). It is pretty horrendous, but I imagine with low power CPUs they forego any security to get the highest speed or leave more bandwidth available for just sending video etc. Newer cheap chips like the ESP32 (wifi/bluetooth/mcu) based ones will probably help for future IoT stuff with regard to getting encrypted connections and other security measures, but still adding security and/or encryption to things always adds overhead that's processing time and/or memory that can be used for something else.
