So guys, some of you may know that I lost a Racer 250 back in Feb and since that time I have been searching for a locator option In case it ever happens again. So far I have tried this:

This works, but range is crap. About 30 feet (maybe 40). Would work if you have a general idea of where the craft went down in tall grass or crop field, but after that its not great.

I never got this to work. I bought a $14 track phone, took the sim card out and bought 3 month ($7 a month) service. Green light never blinked after text comand code+begin. My idea was to get it to work and strip the guts out of it and discrscd the case and shrink tube it and then find a place to mount it.
Anyone have any other ideas?
