Gopro capable DIY quad?

Can the above be done for under £300?

I know I could just buy a phantom but I really fancy having a go at building my own quad. I want it to be able to carry a gopro ( in its protective housing ).

I have batteries (5000 mah 2s lipos ) and a charger from RC cars and am I crazy in thinking that I could use my wheel TX as a control.....? Or do I need sticks?

I'm raring to go so any advice is greatly appreciated

I don't know enough about RC to answer you question about the transmitter, but I'm not sure how the steering wheel type would work on a multi-rotor. I'm still building my quad (I also have a Hubsan X4). I'm coming in under $300 and that includes the transmitter and receiver. It will certainly be capable of carrying a Gopro camera although I'll probably just add a Mobius camera to it eventually.

Do some research. Watch the build videos at FliteTest.com, read the forums there and here and RC Groups. Watch YouTube videos.

I built my frame based on the AnyCopter hub template from FliteTest.com but there are very inexpensive frames available from Hobby King. My flight controller is the Flip 1.5 from Ready To Fly Quads (although see my warning about him in another thread). I also got the motors and ESCs from there. Everything else, I got from Hobby King. Turnigy 9X transmitter/receiver, batteries, charger, 8 full sets of props (4 per set), low voltage alarm, etc.

I can also tell you that a "toy" quad like the Hubsan X4, Blade Nano QX or similar is actually great training for flying a larger quad. Crashes are less expensive!

For a quad you'll need at least 6 channels on your TX/RX pair so unless you have a *very* complicated car, I'm guessing you'll probably want to upgrade the radio.

If it helps, I've started a blog on the drone I'm building over at https://droneonabudget.wordpress.com/ and I also intend (eventually) to have a camera mounted on the drone.

HI mate as ProfFalken said the car transmitter will not work , you need a min of 4 channels, mode 2 is easiest to learn if that price is for GOPRO as well then sorry NO , if just for quad then a 450 will carry a GOPRO your need to fit legs , but can be done for that price or just a touch over
