Gimbals

Hi All,

really new to quads, and have brought my brothers built quad which is great, but my only real reason for buying of him other than a bit of fun is photography.

i like the look of "FeiYu Tech Mini 3D 3-Axis Brushless Gimbal" or its big brother "FeiyuTech G3 3-Axis Brushless Gimba" can anyone recommend this? the flight computer on the quad is a Arducopter, not worried about getting all 3 axis working straight away as i might need to upgrade for the channels. but will this work from the box?

thanks in advance for your help.

Billy

Welcome to the interesting world of AP! Either one of those gimbals will be a good investment.

I would read/watch a few reviews on each. Here are a couple I found.

FeiyuTech G3

thanks Ringalong, currently I've got a 6 channel hobby king transmitter, thinking of upgrading to "Turnigy 9X 9Ch Transmitter w/ Module & 8ch Receiver" without sounding stupid, this will allow me to use two more switches/actions and would this give me enough channels to be able to use a gimbal. or should i go for the 9xr pro?

thanks as always

Billy.

6 channels will be enough to fly and control a gimbal. You would need more channels if/when you wanted to start controlling other function such as arm with switch, activate leds, etc.

I would make a solid investment in a radio since they usually stick around awhile.

Hi Ringolong,

wonder if i could pick your brains on the feiya-tech gimbal. i went one for the mini, which I'm happy with so far. I'm really stuck on getting the gimbal to move. i know what cable needs to be plugged in and please correct me if wrong but it goes into the receiver? channel 6? how do i then set that channel up on the receiver and transmitter i.e. a switch to make it tilt or pitch. I've had a play in mission planner but to no avail.

cheers Billy

You should be able to map out an aux channel to one of your switches. This will allow you to plug your gimbal signal lead into that channel to be controlled by the switch you set up.

Which radio do you have?

I am in love with my Taranis, but everyone says that they are a little complicated to setup. There are tons of videos, and sites out there that show how to set it up.
