FPV Range is terrible ...

So I bought the eachine ET200 VTX with VC700 TVL CCD CAM and use it with the RC832 VRX. I also have these http://www.banggood.com/Boscam-SKY-...er-Mushrooms-Antenna-RP-SMA-Male-p-91109.html clover antennae.

I'm getting roughly 60m range before my Quanum V2 Goggles go fuzzy. This range is with both the mushroom antennae and stock whip antennae.

I'm powering the camera and VTX off its own 850Mah 3s Lipo on the quadcopter.

Also, after maybe 15-20 seconds after plugging the VTX into the battery it becomes verrrry hot .. could this have anything to do with the terrible range? I'v read and seen many people get 3-500 m range using these products.

Very well could be. I'm assuming it needs ~8V to work properly. A 3s right off the charger is ~ 12.6V. So basically the difference, 4.6V, is being burned off and converted to heat. If you had it running off your flight pack it's voltage would be dropping, your separate battery probably isn't.

Is the heat sink out in the open, able to get good air flow?

That's heat sink, It's under the label. Just so you know you are not alone.

This guy is a attaching a finned aluminum one to it.

From talk I've seen it's massive problem with the 600mW.

Do try the 2S and as I mentioned make sure the label side is unobstructed and air can flow freely over it.

It was a very cold day today and I re tested the range, I got to the point where the noise was too much last time and I still had clear picture (around 100m) so I think temperature is a big factor. This was also still with the 3s, as the connector for the tx is a 3s balance comnector so I couldn't try the 2s. Also it says the tx can take 5-15v so I think it should be fine. Would adding heat sink have that much of an effect on the temperature of the tx to improve the range?
