FlySky FS-TH9X Issues

I’ve just bought the FlySky FS-TH9X and I must say I am very disappointed with it. I wanted it to replace a 6 channel radio to be able to switch to more options on a quad copter. I thought the 3-position switch and the extra channels would allow plenty of options. But I find that the 3-position switch cannot be assigned to or mixed with any channel. So it is completely redundant. Also the other channels that can be assigned are two 2-way switches and three pots. It is neither convenient nor safe to use a pot to select an option on a quad copter, so that leaves only the two switches. So I have only two options to select, which is no better than the old 6 channel set. I believe that a firmware upgrade might bring the 3-way switch into use, but this looks far from straightforward and I suppose it would invalidate the guarantee.

OK, I sorted out the 3-position switch thanks to an excellent YouTube video called “Turnigy T9X - English - Flaps on 3 pos. Switch” by Richard Mrazek.

It seems that it operates Channel 6 but to get it to work it has to be set up as a slave of Channel 5, with three mixes to represent the three positions.

First set AUX-CH with Channel 5 as Throttle Hold and Channel 6 as NULL. The other auxiliary channels can be set up as you like.

Then set three program mixes as follows.

Mix1 Mix2 Mix3
STATE ACT ACT ACT
MASTER GYR GYR GYR
SLAVE FLP FLP FLP
OFFSET 0 0 0
UPRATE -100 0 100
DNRATE 100 0 -100
SWITCH NOR ID1 ID2

Now the 3-way switch sets Channel 6 to minimum, middle and maximum and the Gear Switch acts normally and does not affect any other channels.
