First time FPV quad help

My first post here, sorry if I sound inexperienced!

I've been flying cheaper quads and helicopters from the local RC store for a while now and think it's finally time to get something more serious and get into FPV flying.

Like everyone else, I've seen the racing quads videos and think that is what i'd like to aim for, but perhaps not straight away.

I'd like to find something that can move fairly fast in FPV but also has a little better battery life than 5 minuets which all the racing ones seemed to be limited too.

I've been reading reviews, trying to find out what I want and there are so many options I thought it was time to ask for help.

Could anyone recommend a good entry level FPV ready quad or kit for around $500 or $600? I haven't built a quad before, so a RTF would be better, but I'm not against learning to build because it will make fixing it a lot easier after I crash it.

Hi and welcome to the forum how about the Hobby king 450 RTF its in the sale right now and add the FPV in a box ( its a complete system in a box all leads ,sony camera monitor that can be made in to goggles ) all your need is a battery for monitor/receiver , and may be a bigger battery later on for the quad if flight times are not long enough for you

Hello hotneil,

Thanks for the very quick reply.

In all my searching over the last few days, I must have missed that quad and it looks like a nice beginner one. I'll look up some reviews latter once I got this annoying work thing out of the way.

I was looking at this one;

It's a bit more expensive, so your suggestion wins on that, but any thoughts on it?

I have seen a few reviews of those goggles, but I like the kit which contains everything. My only concern is focus. I don't wear glasses, but I can't read a book up close to my face and seem to hold it a little further away than most people. I was looking at the fat shark goggles which can have extra lenses added just in case. I'll have to look more into that.

Thanks again for the reply, now I have more stuff to look at.

Hi mate thats a nice set up your still going to need a radio and Battery , if you go for this to get the good price you must buy just this on its own and ship, then order any thing else you need , working on $600 you should be about right
As for the goggles in the kit I put link to it comes with 2 adjustment lenses and they slide back and forth to adjust , some fat shark have a narrow view so these dont just normal wide view

Thanks again for the quick reply.

Good to know those goggles comes with adjustment lenses.

One more question about FPV goggles; In my day job I'm an animator/TD in the film and game industry and recently I've been experimenting with the oculus rift VR headset. The oculus is fantastic, however it's new and there are still lots of problems to solve, the main one being sickness. Moving in a 3D virtual environment, especially a fast paced game (team fortress is a good example) makes most people sick in just a few minuets, but I haven't found anything online yet that suggests FPV goggles make you as sick as using VR goggles?
