First quad build, FSGX 210 frame

Hi all,

Newbie here, this is my first post. I've been building an FPV quad this year, and would like to share my progress so far.

It's based on the Fossils Stuff FSGX 210 frame, and FrSky rx/tx. Unfortunately I'm having trouble uploading images on the forum, but I have uploaded images on my blog here.

So far I have been for a few line-of-sight test flights (no FPV yet) and am learning the basics. I am however finding it pretty difficult to control the altitude, as this the throttle is VERY sensitive. It also affects makes yaw control tricky (in mode 2), as I inadvertently affect the throttle every time I yaw. Are there any tips for beginners in this area? I have not tried flying in acro mode yet.

Another issue I have had is that if I decrease throttle to almost idle, let the quad free-fall for about a second, and then slam the throttle up high, the motors will not respond and it will stall. Any idea what causes this? Is this normal? My first thought is the ESCs can't provide enough current, but they are rated 20 A, I'm using a thick wire for the battery-to-PDB connection, and the 4s battery is rated 50-100 C.

Welcome to the forum, nice looking build. As for throttle control, you may want to put some expo into it. In your Cleanflight software on configuration you can adjust it. You'll see the graph which is just a straight line. The more you add, the more you'll see it level out in the 50% area. So basically you'll get more control in the 50% throttle area.

As for stalling, you can try a slightly milder prop. 5045s are very aggressive, try some 5040X3. It'll also make your quad a little tamer while you're learning.

As for the throttle on yaw, try lowering you P gains on yaw. Just drop it by 5 at a time until it yaws without the throttle increasing. Of course, this will affect your D settings a bit but that's another story................

It's a matter of preference. They grip the air better, kinda like studs on your tires. But you will get slightly less flight times.
