I've never built or flown a drone but i have had some experience with heli's and on simulators.
i intend on doing aerobatic flights (and making a kiss build) once i get good enough but for now im just looking for something to start on.

Ive been looking at the vortex 250 pro for a while and it looks bullet proof enough but anywhere i look is on backorder or is out of my budget (i intended on saving up).

i have my own rx/tx (dx6i) and charger and my budget is about $300 (aud) currently
i dont mind building one but my question is wether i should save up for the vortex and wait for it to come in stock, get the e-turbine or if someone could reccomend a good build for me that can satisfy my learning needs (preferable from hobbyking au warehouse) or somewhere i am able to purchase from (eg not amazon)

For the first build,some common accessories is better,once you get the experience,i think you will prefer racing quadcopter...:)

As an owner of two of these (three counting the first one I had that flew away) I can tell you that while the look is appealing, the durability is very poor if you are an aggressive flyer like me. I broke many arms, burned up boards and ESCs, several cameras, VTXs and FCBs before I got smarter and purchased some tried and proven frames like the ZMR and QAV. The best thing I can say about this design is that it put me right in the thick of learning how these things work, how to repair, how to modify, because I was always fixing something. I can be stubborn, so with a large and growing credit card bill I stuck with this design for a few months, before I found the joy of the QAV-R and ZMR 250 designs. I wanted to be different with the Racer 250, but I soon learned that different is not always better. I now love the look of ZMR/QAV quads because that look translates into more flying time, less fixing, less waiting for parts, durability, dependability and good performance. With the Racer 250, I eventually got fearful of trying new moves, because every new move that failed meant something will break. IMO, if I'm not pushing myself to get better then what's the point.

I'm rambling, but here is one example. Last night I was doing full speed dive runs with a roll through a gap in some large trees. On the last run I over rotated, and hammered my QAV-R right into a branch which wedged the front to arms in a V of the branch. Stopped the quad and stuck it. My Run cam ejected about 30 yards by the force. After I cut down the branch (30-40 feet up and the quad and branch came crashing down, I was expecting a mess up quad, but it had ZERO damage besides two mangled props. If that was the Racer, the camera and VTX would be broke, it would have sheered off all the arms, cracked the top plate and probably shorted out the PCB and maybe the FCB.

I was lucky and more damage could easily be expected with a crash like that, but that's the type of durability that can be expected with ZMR/QAV designs.

My advice is to stick with the proven and tested designs of those who came before us for sure when just starting out. By the way the Vortex is on my 'someday' wish list too.
