Drone suddenly reverses

Hi:

Flying a Holy Stone HS 100 and very much the newbie here. Read the complete (insufficient) instructions, looked online, looked for videos. Today, for the first time, I noticed that the drone suddenly reversed and came back towards me after a certain distance. Was not using the smartphone app, just the hand controller. Is this possibly an interference issue, or a function of maximum distance or something? Again, the phone app does limit the distance, but the phone was in my pocket, app not even on. The instructions do not show the remote buttons allowing limiting the distance. My own Internet router does not even do this, but maybe the neighbor's? It is, at that point, still a 100 feet from their house. It did this twice, coming back rapidly, with me TRYING to fly it away, so as to not hit me. Like a mind of its own. Everything else flew normally up to that point. No wind, warm, sunny.

Thanks,
Zukester

My SJRC F11 did the same thing: I was flying it, walking along behind it, when it suddenly reversed itself and returned to the area where I first started flying it. I assumed it was a built-in function - the default flying mode is "Beginner" which limits its range to 30 meters or so, then it returns to its starting point. I haven't had a chance to try flying it in "Follow Me" mode to see if it will go farther than 30 meters - if not I guess I'll have to turn off the Beginner mode to get it to extend its range. I was using the app on my phone, along with the controller though...

Indeed it is strange. Was wondering if neighboring internet routers did it. I did not hit home at all either, and I could not evren slow its return with the stick. When I checked the wifi signal in the area (out in the sticks) I saw a lot of wifi routers to connect to. It is possible people came home from work and were on the internet, but that is freaky, this thing coming straight at you, no control to stop it. I am thankful it came towards me and not away, though. So I will search for a place where there are a lot less wifi signals, but not hopeful it is possible. Had I opened the app and was using it, I could understand, but the phone was in my back pocket, as it is too hard for me yet to multitask that much. Two joysticks is more than enough, and reversed is crazy for me, a southpaw.

It might be built in to the drone to return to where it took off from - even without using the phone app. I think all the phone app really gives you is a set of commands that are duplicated from the controller, and a view from the camera.

Well, I never imagined that there was no way to change this without the phone app, so today I shall keep it in that mode, go over to that side of the yard and fly it toward the house and see if it comes back to me. Last night, it did not work at all. All lights solid, then I said "auto-takeoff" and when I went to go up in altitude, like normal, it cut off, half-flipped forward nd stopped on the lawn right there. That is a new one. All batteries always charged. Have not even ever gotten to half charged. Not enough time. We shall see. So................I am in beginner mode I guess, which is fine. You answered it, thanks.

"5. Flight
Safe to Fly (GPS)
The Default GPS Mode is BEGINNER MODE, Under BEGINNER MODE:
1.Flight Distance is limited between 0-30 M/0-98.4 Feet.
2.Flight Altitude is limited between 0-30 M/0-98.4 Feet.
3.RTH Altitude is under 25 M/82 Feet.
You can Turn-off the BEGINNER MODE to modify the parameters in
the APP on your phone."

Watched even more YT videos and saw it happen to the person in the video and they mentioned that it was perhaps why it was doing this flyback to them. Well, then it is a good idea for safety.
