CW motors overheating

Hi All,

i have a tarot 650 ironman, with max 4008 470 motors, max 4in1 and 15" props and since swapping adding the new motors and A2 both the cw motors are hot after 5 minutes test flight, this is only hovering to set the gains and i haven't gotten any further.

also fights when turning one way compared to the other...

has anyone had this issue and been able to resolve?

Try upping your yaw gains. If they're not high enough you'll tend to get some yaw drift and maybe the motors are fighting to keep it from doing this. When you're hovering, does your 650 sound smooth or likes it's fighting itself?
 
I'm pretty sure its smooth, but ill let you know tomorrow. i set the motor mounts with real precision this afternoon but won't get to test until the morning.

so after some reading on the old inter web, i think it just came down to the motor mounts not being level. I mucked around for hours try to set them up, (downloaded a really good spec app) as if the floor is slightly off the quad is then off and it was a mission!!! but the flight today was bang on. yawed left and right with out any resistance and all the motors were warm but none were any hotter than the others. I'm playing the the gains using the know on my taranis and not sure but on testing I'm giving it the full beans and feel i could give it some more if it was possible.

Interesting. On my 650, I just lined the motor mounts up by eye and it took like 5 minutes. Everything seems fine, but you have me thinking that they're not aligned as good as they could be. Could you send me a link to the app that you used level yours? As for your gains, here's what I did. I just kept increasing them by increments of 5 until I started getting shake and ocsilation, then backed them off by 5. Still a little twitchy so I backed it off just a touch more and now it's quite responsive but still nice and smooth.
 
its funny, when i used the standard tarot motor mounts that came with the 650 i did pretty much the same and didn't come across any issues, but since adding new tarot motor mounts which probably give an extra 1 - 2" per arm this is where I've struggled of late. but no more!!!

if you click on jackson's first link, i got the fourth one along "clinometer" its really sharp compared to the iPhones stand spirit level.

i'll have a go at the gains, thanks for the info.

ps, i like the little bubble level on the second link.
