AIR-WAR.ORG
I just released a new "Edgy" Sound Pack for Open TX transmitters.

❤️️ Some neat things about my Sound Pack: ❤️
--Drop in replacement for other English Sound Packs
--750 new audio files, more than any other sound pack
--Unlike other Sound Packs, you can browse in Windows Explorer and see the phrase said in the file, and sort by Album / Category. Yes! Godsend!
See it here: http://air-war.org/graphics/edgy_dir_listing.jpg
--No more 4 different voices on your radio, finally your radio will talk to you in one voice.
--I down sampled everything to 16kbs, with no loss in sound quality, which should work on even the oldest transmitters, but I only have TX-16s so no way to test.
Anyone with older or different radios who could confirm my sound files play on it, and let me know, that would be gang bangers.
--Actively maintained (I hope!)

Um, no, I'm a hobbiest RC aerobatic quadcopter pilot. Here's my FPV page: http://fpv.air-war.org

This is my announcement of a Sound Pack I made that you can install on the SD card of your Open-TX transmitter to make it talk in a different voice.

It took me about 3 weeks of work to record 750 audio files, make the website, and write the FAQ; and another 2 weeks of procrastination in between. It's free, and I'm not selling anything at all anywhere, nor really have any plans to. Happy flying!

To use this, you need an Open-TX transmitter, such as the Radiomaster TX-16s, the Jumper T-16 or T-18, the Traranis QX9D, TBS Tango... etc.

If you don't have an Open-TX transmitter it probably will not be of much use to you. Those that do have one, have to program it from the start because out of the box they are nothing but blank slates. You would program it to say a sound with the Play Track command whenever any switch is flipped to a position, or logical condition is met... such as the attery voltage getting low, or Crossfire Telemetry Value being in a dangerous range, etc.

These transmitters are fully programmable and you can do some amazing things with them - that's both good and bad. Good, because you can with a lot of work make a Transmitter of the Gods to behave exactly like you want it to loaded with features. The bad is that like I said, they are blank slates when you get them with just the operating system on them, much like a Commodore 64 is out of the box. Nothing but a blinking prompt, and if you want it to do anything at all, you have to program it.

I have two Radiomaster TX-16s's and love them, but geez were they a lot of work to program with a steep learning curve to figure out and watch How To videos about. Out of the box, they won't fly anything, you have to explicitly tell it how to talk to your model, and then program your model to do what it's suppose to do. Maybe this is the norm, but it is a big learning curve.

If you just buy a toy or something from DJI or Parrot that includes a propreitary controller out of the box that just works with that model and can't be changed, then you skip all that, and also... probably have no idea what I'm talking about. I have a few of those myself, and there is absolutely no setup involved with them. You just turn them on, push some buttons, move the sticks, and they just work. They also don't do anything really cool, like talk to you and tell you the quad's altitude, ground speed, battery voltage, battery percent, rssi values, have timers, tell you the GPS coordinates when the quad goes down, etc. For that, you want an Open-TX transmitter and Crossfire and then you'd program how you want every switch to behave and what you want it to say or do.

OK, my business is Videography. I always look for new platforms to render choreographed video presentations. With the proper investment I could see my company benefiting from this type of platform. I will look into it further and perhaps collaborate with you in the future.

--- Quick install instructions ---
-- basically, you'll just be replacing /SOUNDS/en folder on your TX's microSD card with mine. That's it!
-- unzip the Zip archive to your desktop. You'll get a "SOUNDS" folder with another "en" folder in it
-- connect to your transmitter with a USB cable (or put your microSD in a card reader)
-- in My Computer, backup your old microSD cards /SOUNDS/en folder if you wish, or rename it to /SOUNDS/en_original , or... just delete it
-- drag and drop my new replacement /SOUNDS/en folder that you just unzipped
..... onto your microSD card drive using Windows Explorer
..... to simply replace your old /SOUNDS/en folder. (say yes to replace queries)
-- when done copying,,, disconnect safely from USB. you're done!
-- if you don't hear new sounds when power cycling your radio, make sure your radio "Voice language" is set to "English" in SYS: Settings:(gear icon)
-- Caveat: Note that if you don't use the other language sound packs, if you are pressed for space on your microSD card, you can delete them.

I don't mean to bust your balloon however it's fairly easy to just convert any mp3 to a wav file and stick it in your sound files on open tx.

Mine plays the following full albums:
1: Rancid "let's go"
2: MetallicA "and justice for all"
3: Prong "Cleansing"
4: Ratt "Invasion of your privacy".
5: Hanoi Rocks "Hanoi Rocks"

Pretty much anything that your phone can play can be loaded onto open tx lol.

No bubble busted, I've done it myself, you can even play them as background music with "Play BgMusic" instead of "Play Track" I don't think the synchronous playing of a background sound track is entirely implemented at this time of this post though, as doing so prevents all other sounds from playing until it is finished. Also, make sure when you convert them you do it in the right speed, or you'll end up with The Chipmunks.

Not too useful for saying what function you're doing though or what value you're reading off... and, well, I can't distribute mp3 fragments nor release them into the public domain as they are copyrighted.

If I were to implement a transmitter as dual mp3 player for music to fly to, I'd write a LUA script to read off either the S1 or S2 pot values (or both, as each is a number from -100 to 100). So move the knob, and where it stops it reads off the value. Then pressing a momentary trim switch or the momentary flip switch, would play whatever music selection your POT was at. So you could theoretically... with enough SD card space... chose from 200x200 tracks... or 40,000 songs... using just the two dial pots, and one momentary switch. I would probably slice that up into increments of 10, so you didn't have to be super precise with the POts, thus turning each into a 10 position switch... giving you two music selector knobs capable of a choice of up to 400 songs.

Also note, .mp3 --> .wavs = large increase in file size. These transmitters may also be be limited to using 2gb/4gb cards microSD cards max. Don't hold me to it, though. Would depend on your hardware.

I won't write a music player though until the OpenTX devs finish the BgMusic function and it truly does play... a track in the background... because otherwise while your music is playing, your radio won't be able to warn you using audio tracks with system music... about anything. At this time, unless something's been updated, that's the downside of playing a whole song on your radio. Snippets of music, though, that don't play for very long... not a concern. Also, even with background music track playing once implemented properly, you still would be running a voice pack concurrently. If they're smart, they'll reduce the BgMusic sound briefly for any Play Track function call.

BTW, the first songs I played on mine were Teenage Wasteland and Black Betty and a few others, I forget which. My full playlist I dubbing over flight videos is here.

Yeah I loved my little red FrSky x-lite Open TX radio. Like you said, I had it set up as 'the transmitter of the gods'. Then recently it refused to turn on. (Tried everything, the folks at RDQ tried to. Oh well.) So I ended up having to learn the (kind of annoying ) tx16s user interface. I thought I re-setup everything but something was backwards and my Zohd 250g immediately corkscrewed into the ground (fixable).
And why do they make the buttons have black text on black backgrounds?! I can't see that lol.
Ok, back to some LUA fun.

It's a huge collection of sound files to make your transmitter talk in a different voice, which you can use to label switches or set automatic alarms (like when your Bat voltage or Singal Quality gets low). Moving your reporting of critical information to voice is incredibly useful for cleaning off the chart funk clutter off your OSD for a 100% blank view. I fly with absolutely nothing overlaying my view from above. Just say no to OSDs.

Works with Edge=TX or Open-TX, and any other transmitter that can play .wav soundfiles off a microSD card.
