Cheap Track Markers

Ive been trying to figure out how to make a really nice and visible track markers. Not sure about the gates yet but for the direction and course markers, Im gonna use Clay Pigeons like for skeet shooting. You can stack them easily to stand out in taller grass and they can be easily painted from their typical orange so you can make one side green to indicate next gate direction if needed. They're super cheap ($8 bucks for 90) and they're biodegradable so leaving them would be ok in some applications. What do you guys think?

Sounds like a good idea, I know nothing about gates but for cheap gates (I think those are those obstacles to fly through), what about some dollar store pool noodles and simple 1/2" PVC pipe stuck in the ground where the holes in the pool noodles slide over and you can make an arch and such.

I would imagine pool noodles to be forgiving with crashing into them.

Clay pigeons are cheap and probably visible. Bonus is you can reuse them.

I personally use some pex ( 22$ for 1/2'' x 100', comes in many colors and red is not as visible as you might imagine) piping cut to a length that makes the size arches I want and stick them in the ground with pieces of dowel ($0.75 in total for like 10') rod that fits into the end. Then I bought a pack of 50 course markers for 25$.

In total around 48$ for quite a bit of track. You could add pool noodles to the pipe too.

Not as visible as official race gates, but works pretty good and you get the whole track for the cost of a gate or two.

A guy I know (from forums) is manufacturing lighted gates with LED's and they look quite cool without being too expensive. I have no financial stake in this (or any other stake really) but if you want to look at his stuff, let me know and I'll show you where to look. I have bought a few things form him and he's a stand-up guy.

Would be pretty cool idea. You've got me wondering if throwing some LED strips in the pipe would be enough. Probably too opaque :/

I'm interested, got a link?

I've installed some 5050smd 12v light strips in vinyl tubing for protection and installed it in my work van for lighting. It works great, 5 meters of the LED strip can be had for for around $10-12 on amazon.

Apart from the noodles you could get some kid to paint a bunch of paper plates bright orange for buttons & just peg them down.
Have your dinner off em, cream pie someone's face. Just cleanup:cool:
