Building my own custom multirotor frame

Hello folks,

I am building my own quad rotor with frame size of 28 inches, plus configuration. All I am trying to understand that do I need to have specific models of ESCs and motors. I know that flight controller can be of any model and capability but as the size of frame is little big, I think i need specific power of motor and ESCs.

can someone help?

Are you sure you want plus and not X? You are correct about needing certain motors and ESCs. First you need to know what you wnat to do. Do you want to have a small racer, or have a big camera quad? Once you have that figured out decide about how much lift you will need. You are going to want to have a minimum of twice the lift as you will have in weight. When you get the props decided you will decide the motors, you want motors that will handle your props. Then you need ESCs that are rated at least 5a more constant current supply than the motor's max draw. Also bear in mind that you may want the BEC option on the ESC too depending on the FC you choose.

What type of budget are we looking at?

Thanks GJH105775. Frankly, I do not have a budget in mind but I don't wanna end-up too high on this venture as I am a beginner. To tell you the source behind this inspiration, here is the link which I want to follow (at least for the frame mechanics) to start with.

For the FC, I would like to use APM 2.5 or higher, the reason I choose APM is that I found all the capabilities in this FC with controlled price, isn't it?

EDIT:

Oh yeah .. configuration. Any specific reason for not having "plus" configuration? hay... I am eager to learn so let your knowledge flow through to my thread ... :)

Most people like the X, simply because it feels more natural. It is really just preference, you can change it buy rotating your FC and landing gear.

I did a similar frame, that in I used aluminium. It is a bit heavy, but the quad can take off like a rocket. Take a look at this list of flight controllers, list price range and features.

Here is that build log with improvements and regrets.

Ok, I will think about X configuration for that matter. I already this list of FC's .. thank you.

Do you think that the size of frame is just ok? Any idea if I am going for too big frame.

The only thing that can make the frame too big is the weight. If you wanted to make it a little bigger so you can upgrade later it should be fine if the weight is fine.
