Best websites to buy parts from?

Hi there. I have listed up all the parts I need to build a quadcopter. I've ordered my tools and other necessities but I'm struggling to decide where to buy the actual parts.

Where do you buy parts? can you recommend any specific website or ebay sellers? Hobbyking is one of the shops I have in mind but I have had bad experiences with them in the past. I could buy everything from Banggood but... you know. All those bad reviews would put anyone of lol!

I found RadioC this morning and it looks quite good but I don't know anyone who has used them.

I would prefer a shop that has UK stock of everything. I want to avoid shipping from china/hongkong/the moon at all costs. I've seen a few ebay sellers that say they ship from the UK but when the item arrives 2 weeks later, the package is all beaten up and I can never get a hold of the seller again.

Thanks
Marc

I buy most of my stuff from HobbyKing or RC Timer. HobbyKing has a UK warehouse, but the selection won't be as good as their main warehouse. It might have everything you need though. A lot of people have had bad experiences with HobbyKing, but I usually feel the risk is worth it since their prices are so low and a lot of people use their parts so getting advice when something goes wrong usually isn't that hard.

RC Timer is in Hong Kong, but when I order from them, I get my stuff pretty quickly because they tend to use DHL express. I'm in the US and I'm not sure about their shipping to the UK though. The boxes are often beat up pretty good when they come from Hong Kong, but I've yet to get any damaged parts from RC Timer. Both sites are extremely well known and well used, so they aren't going anywhere, but I haven't had to use their customer service yet, so I don't know how easy it would be to get them to replace something if it came damaged or they shipped the wrong thing.

These guys are well known too, but I haven't ordered anything from them because I'm not in the UK:

Hi mate like MM said in the UK hobby king is good for some parts i get my motors form a guy on e bay he ships from uk and your get it in a few days , there is also PROFIGHT they are UK based quadcopter shop but are not cheap ,E max do motors etc and have a head office in Uk and you can buy direct from them , also these are near heathrow http://robotbirds.com/catalog/advan...y=USD&keywords=02&sort=1a&language=en&page=25
there prices are very good too
I am in the UK so if your not sure on any parts just put a link on here and if I know where you can get better I will let you know

Thanks for that! I've bought my motors from robotbirds since they are a lot cheaper than a UK seller on ebay. I will probably end up buying ESCs from hobbyking though. £9.50 per esc on ebay, £7 per esc on hobbyking.

I was surprised how little there is online about shops. Perhaps you should make a thread listing all the shops, detailing where they are based and where they ship to? I'm sure that would help many people out!

Also a slight off topic version. I want to make my quadcopter fairly light and easy to assemble. I've seen people use power distribution boards and I've seen people directly connect ESCS to a mains cable, not needing a PD board. What would be the best?

Hi mate making a loom or buying a loom will be lighter , When you get esc go over power ( you then can up prop sizes and not go over the amps limit) and get simonk flashed they work really well ( if you got mutlistar motors you need esc flashed with BL Heli

Thanks for that! I will go for a loom. Is there any recommended wire to use? We have loads in the garage and I wouldn't know what to use. I am using eMax MT2204 motors with the eMax 12a simonk ESCs.

You really need silcon wire as its very soft and flexes well if the wire is hard it will snap after time , 20 awg is about 0.8118mm
14 awg is 1.6277mm if you can tell me how thick the wires on the motor i can tell you what AWG rating is
