I have the same setup at home and it took me a while, you can use the s.bus which is only 3 wires.
You need one of the cc3d micro connectors, plug the micro plug into the "main port" of the cc3d, then the red, black and blue go into the sbus port "bottom" right of the x8r. It will have a picture on the receiver. My set of wires had dodgy colours so i had to use the blue wire.
You will know it worked when you are in cc3d and you get a response.
Also, i had to program the channels that cc3d pick up onto my taranis, via page 6 on the transmitter. I think its the mixer page where you assign buttons to channels.
