Another new to quad

Hello!
I'm into a lot of hobbies and the newest one is, obviously, drones. I've been looking at them for a couple of years and got one for Christmas. Since I've found this site I've got into my head building one. while perusing this site I came across the cows and clouds video and that pretty much sums up what I want
wanting GPS and FPV but I noticed that video is almost 5 years old so I was curious as to what about that build should be upgraded, improved upon, etc. the height that climbs to was amazing and I don't see a need to go that high, but it is impressive. I was also curious as to what handheld controllers you would use with that, and do you use that same handheld for other drones?
I'm learning all the terminology so bear with me.

That flight was bordering on illegal I think. Maximum height here in UK is 400'
That looked to be more.
So what size frame are you looking @.
Do you intend to carry a big camera for media. Or just go pro.

Hi that was my mate in the USA it's a long range set up it was all the very best parts which will still take some beating even with todays parts ,if you in the USA then you should be able to do long range
Like my friend said in the UK you can't

mozquito1; I have no parts, so anything I buy (go pro camera, or any camera really) I will have to acquire but I am new to the hobby so am not snobbish about any particular brand. cheaper with good quality gets my dollar.
holtniel; i am in the US and like I said I don't need to go that high in the air, but it was impressive. I would also think a return home would kind of be necessary on something like this (it would be for me anyway)
my one and only drone is something from QVC and is about 6 inch or so (has 4in props), nothing to big. I don't think I want one huge, 6in or in that area seems to be fine

showing all the things you can do when you have a 6S (22.2) HT flip fpv quad!.. this thing can do so much that ordinary 3 and 4s quads just cant
Really?

This guy has no problem making stunning videos (without a camera gimbal) on 4S and only 3 motors to boot. :)

Mad editing skillz sure do help.

I'm not to sure about the long range to be honest. I think you can, it's just maximum height. That's all I'd worry about anyway.
I don't normally go beyond 6-700' anyway but I'm going to push my setup this summer.

but back to the question at hand, that set up, those parts are not obsolete and still a viable build? no newer, cheaper, just as good parts?

They look like 7" props on a 280 frame or
Maybe 6" on a 250mm.
Decent but cheap parts.
Any F3-F4 flight controller
Omnibus F4 or SPR-F3
Matek pdb 5v+12v bec
DYS or littlebee esc's. Amps depend on what series lipo you get. 4S you should be fine with 20amp esc's.
Emax RS 2205 motors
ImmersionRC tramp vtx.
And the tx, well see how much you want to spend on it but I'm still using the one I thought would just be a starter. As I can't fault it. I just don't know its maximum range, atleast 2km I have seen in videos on YouTube. Although clones now are better than the original boards, I still try not to buy them. Unless a customer wants it dirt cheap.

I would recommend atleast 22xx size motors, & you could get 6inch props on a 250mm frame. 300mm+ = 7-8inch props.
A bit of foresight or planning required.
As it can get a bit tight with all the bits & a GPS.
Get practicing soldering on an old pc or hi-fi,tv whatever.

You could go for AIO kit but it's not like your racing & need to trim the weight,
you will need a couple of bec's for the GPS & lights if you put any on it.
