450 frame build - advice

I run 2216 900kv t-motors, and they are really smooth and have been super reliable. They are higher priced, but so far worth it for me.

Yeah. I made a typo. 2216-900kv, not 980kv. Sorry about that. You are right about Tiger motors. Very nice. As you noticed with T Motor ESC's and all the other better brands do not come with BEC's. Someone smarter than me will have to tell you why. I have learned to avoid buying quad parts on price alone. Here is my list of favorite's that I feel I have gotten exactly what I paid for. Lowest I will go is SunnySky motors and ZTW spyder ESC's and Castle UBEC. The middle for me is T Motor motors and S series ESC's and Castle UBEC. My primo is KDE Direct motors and ESC's and UBEC. I have only been able to afford 1 set of these, but they are beyond amazing!! For controllers, 2nd is XAircraft MiniX w/ GPS and OSD. 1st is XAircraft Super X which comes complete and has some of the most accurate accelerometers, altimeter, barometer etc. in the industry. This list is strictly my opinion. I spent many hundreds of dollars in the beginning replacing all the cheap Chinese crap I bought then because it was junk. Since I started adhering to my list I have not had a single parts failure. I guess my point is to use care when assembling your parts list. There are good products out there at reasonable prices. You just have to persevere. Most important point on the build is to make sure you have fun!!:D

Found on eBay in my price range. included shipping where applicable

Devo 7 au$130 I can collect this from our Woolworths or Big W stores within 5 days.

Devo 10 au$176 plus receiver - au$36 - au$61 forgot to note numbers:(

Turnigy i6 au$76
Turnigy xr 9Pro au$175 receiver au$10 -au$20 v2

FlySky FT - T6 au$75

FlySky Fs TH9 inc receiver au$143

Apart from DEVO 7 - all are on eBay from China/HK and 3 weeks delivery seems to be expected.
I would still need to find a quick delivery for a receiver!! So if I have to wait from China - there is no convenience factor involved in any choice....

Opinions??

Did a search XXXXx au add teh au to get the aussie locations.... as always ended up on eBay and found this... the kit costs as much as a set of motors and ESCx from T-Motors! and its a bigger frame which I was thinking about for later.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/X525-V3-...-Motor-KK2-15-FC-SimonK-30A-ESC-/271955360251
How would I know if its a bunch of fakes!!

Typically its in Shenzhen and I think they all meet up at night to Chuckle about their hold on the market!

Is this at AU$115 the same as you link to? price seems at odds with your link converting exchange rates to AU$

The price makes sense because I believe their home base is Australia.
ringalong is dead on! I remember that post and thinking how glad I am I don't have to deal with that crap anymore. When you read a review on Youtube that recommends buying a couple extra motors and ESC's so you won't have to wait on shipping when they fail.....RUN!! Save up. Buy the good stuff and enjoy the hobby.

Although I have no hands on experience with any of those, I have seen posts online describing erratic quality control for FlySky. The Devo and Turnigy radios each have their following and overall seem to be pretty good. I think they both are compatible with Lemon Rx's. Others on the forum should know more about that. Have you given up on Taranis, Spektrum etc.? Buying a radio is like buying tools; a long term investment.

Taranis? In my list above you can see a price bracket forming. I am on a budget basically so although with DSLRs I have always bought the best I could afford - and now have 3 and a wack of lenses doing nothing in a cupborard - I am looking more at what a radio can do for what I anticipate I would use it. I am never going to end up with 10 or 20 kit quads stacked up. The Taranis - for now - is outside my budget. My wife is still giving me earache about paying au$2500 for a Phantom 3 Pro and messing about with "kids toys from China"!
Unless I have it wrong.. Turnigy and Flysky seem to be the same - at least I see on YT that the write Flysky and in brackets "Turnigy". So as it was only that the eBay store sent my SIL a item dispatched message - its bound to be at least 3 weeks before it gets here and time to learn a bit more about radios. That said the fact that I can get a Devo 7 and receiver for around au$130 and pickup from the mall 5 miles away - within 5 days of order - seems attractive.
Jury still out yet though.

Understand. Have not heard anything negative about Devo operating well. Sounds like you're about to be a Devo(tee)..... Sorry. I have to learn better control. Sorry for that one too....Hahaha!!

I don't see a link to the Aus store... musta forgot to past! http://www.xaircraftaustralia.com.au/xaircraft-minix-fc-module/ yesterday got fraught!

Looking at the the Aussie website in calmer mode - what I found was "Package B" which seem s to be just a module. Package A includes the other bits needed.
This is a wierd website... I cannot find any "contact us" email link anywhere. There is a promo thing about getting package A or B before Nov7... but the A stuff is not found anywhere in their website.
A vid at the bottom of the page looks like HK or China with the close packed high rise housing. My thoughts are this is a drop shipper site. Obviously Package "A" is what is in your link.

Mark Twain mode: IN 1997 we moved into a new home and decided to get more "modern" furniture. We have a big kitchen with a "nook" where we could have a small table - but enough for us and our daughter to eat -informally.
We went around store after store and then we found a "Bistro" unit all Italian looking. We went away to think... I am normally never able to walk in look and buy... I ( as you can see) have to check everything- other options - prices etc,.
We went back three times to check it and we decided to buy. Called an assistant and asked... how long to deliver. She came back from Checking.... "Sorry sold out".
We went away and on our drive back we diverted to an IKEA store on the outskirts of Liverpool UK. Found a small square table and 4 what I called my ' Vinny van Gogh chairs. If you dont know his paintings.. its lost on you. They are plain pine and have a raffia type seat. Flat pack and in the car we went home. We had similar experiences with other things and my boss always reckoned ( theme music from X files in background) it was intervention!
I think it was because we p&&&ed around to long making our minds up!

I do seem to be getting pushed along the Devo 7 path. The Devo 10 from EverBuying was not so much a choice - but the only radio they had that covered the us$140 "refund" - now the subject of a PP claim!

Sorry. Sorry. 2216 900kv is what I meant to type. They tell me the second thing to go is your mind. I don't remember the first...........

Been looking at all the options on motors and costs.... heads spinning faster than props!
What size /type battery is Ok for this size of motor? The guy in the shop with the T-Motors suggests - 4s 10c 5400Mah @au$110 +shipping.

If you are looking for calm flights with long flight times, for video for example, and the ability to lift efficiently then you'll want a 3s battery. Use larger diameter, lower pitch props like 11 x 4.0 or 12 x 3.0. You will get lots of lift and smooth flights with long flight times. If you want your quad to boogie use 4s with smaller, higher pitch props like 9 x 5.5 or 10 x 4.7. You will gain thrust(speed) and be able to tear holes in the sky at the expense of lift and flight times. It all depends on what kind of flying you wish to do.
My opinion, and you know what they say about opinions, is that speed is for the smaller quads like a 250 or even up to 350. Larger quads are better suited to longer, more stable FPV type flying in large areas. Not that they can't move pretty quick when pushed, they just don't lend themselves to that kind of flying. Kinda like asking a family sedan to perform like a Corvette. That's my opinion and I'm stickin' to it! Hahaha!

With this 450 build - its the former. Its also something I can leave in the car when I am out and an opportunity presents... pull over and let it fly.
The Phantom is a brilliant flying camera but not a whizzer. Once saw -0n YT - a bunch of the 250 racers at an event.. and some store or distributor came in with 6 or more Phantoms - to race the course... even these guys could not fly them fast and turn easy! Its also £*^&*$ expensive and I don't want it bouncing around in the boot when I go out. Its also so easy to fly that a half smart kid of 10 can fly it - probably better than me.
Tonights YT selection was about BECs and the differences. so it s slowly going in.
I was thinking about the 550 kit... but that may wait and I can try a racer see how that turns out! Still churning over which Radio to get.

Thanks for you reply... learned something about props - lift - power combinations.

Not able to find any Sunnysky 2212 900kv, Hobbyking have these...
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...3_980Kv_14_Pole_Multi_Rotor_Outrunner_V2.html
Using the logic that Turnigy seem to be decent gear.....I have them sat in a cart.
Am I OK with these?

Actually it's 2216 900kv Here are 3 places to buy them;
http://www.gearbest.com/rc-parts/pp...Ffhcaz-9DrhZXbnnVKT6fbnZ3wobLW07nkBoClzjw_wcB
http://www.banggood.com/Sunnysky-V2...ia_5EGhcHpojOcQ0YZ5t2EdoeftT-d6gpyRoC_Lnw_wcB

I, personally, am not a fan of Turnigy/Multistar motors and ESC's. They are built to a price point. My experience with them has been marginal at best. They are built to a price point. I bought some early on and they are part of the reason I only buy quality parts now. I'll save up and wait before buying lesser quality. A couple months ago HK put the Quanum Venture ARF on sale. In a moment of weakness I bought one. It uses the motors you are looking at and Afro ESC's. Two things I have noticed after a few flights; The motors are inefficient and not particularly strong. The ESC's begin to shut down after a series of rapid throttle changes. Very frustrating. I will change them out this winter. This is only my opinion. Others on the forum may have a different one. After experiencing how nice it is to use quality parts that work perfectly, I admit to being intolerant of the mediocre performance of the cheap stuff.
My oldest granddaughter calls me a "COB" ( crusty old biker). Maybe she's right. At least she says it with a smile......:p

2216 - typo! Thanks for info..... Gearbest are part of Everbuying... so having started a PP dispute - I dont think I would use them.
I do have affiliate with BG - but never bought from them.
I did find an eBay store selling them with EXS in a combo and they have 100% FB
Is there any place all the calculations a nd stuff can be read up on?? I am beginning to feel both stupid and a forum pest trying to get advice and info!
I have been on Hobbyking and RC Groups forum tonight scouring for info on motors - opinions all vary.. which again makes me ask if their is some book of knowledge on all this.
I see things at 30amp or 3amp and although I understand ampage..mostly! I dont know why in for example - ESCs all vary.
I can understand going for the best... the higher expense if often less than doing the same job three times with lesser product! WHich is why I thought at first to go for DJI motors and after that the T-Motors.
The forums seem to agree that your choice of Sunnysky motors is good - which likely explains why they are hard to find!

I have actually found on eBay - complete 450 kits with SunnySky motors, esc, and uBec ( 4 motors into it) and other bits for about $160 or so..... but I am so pigged off with everything taking weeks to come - I treid looking into aussir stores!

BTW - its not just China with long deliveries - I bought a prop balancing 6mm rod to check the Phantom props - off a USA store on eBay - they warn of long deliver and explain the shipping hub system which is that packages a re shipped to various collecting hubs to make a shipment to the next hub on route to teh country - area etc, of the buyer. Its teh cheapest way to ship stuff. And it staill aint here after 3 weeks
