SJRC Z5 question(s)

I just got the drone today and downloaded the app. I want to adjust the flight parameter settings and have been able to set them the way I want but they won't save. I hit the save button but the circle just goes around and around.....and around...... but it never actually saves the changes. So I turned on the controller thinking maybe that had to be on but that didn't do it. So I turned on the drone and then the controller and linked them but that didn't do it either. Maybe I need to do all that first and then try again? Or....?

Thank you for any help!

This is how I did it.....

Turn on the Z5 drone > (don't really need the controller at this time) > turn on the smartphone > click the phone Settings > click Wifi > locate and click the SJ app > click Connect. ( You need to connect the drone with your phone first).
Open the SJ app > top right, click Settings > change parameters > Save.

Thank you, that did it. I'm guessing you have to activate Wifi each time you do anything with it? How about calibrating the compass? Do you need to do that every flight also? Or just when you change locations?

I am not sure about adjusting the parameter part because I am using the default settings and I am ok with it.
As to the rest..... yes, you'll need to repeat the procedures every time you want to fly the drone, activating wifi, calibration etc.

Thanks again. I flew it for a few minutes earlier and like you said, it stays where you put it. Seems like a great practice drone for only $95. Do the antenna looking things actually do anything or does it work just as well if they remain folded out of the way? Also have you used a micro sd card instead of a tf card? I plan to try it since I don't have any tf cards and hope it works ok. I'm anxious to see what sort of video it produces.

Antenna is a fake. Why the manufacturer bothers to put a pair of fake ones on is beyond me.
I use micro sd card. It works fine with the drone.

I made my first attempt at recording today. A micro sd card. It only went in about half way, does that sound right? But it clicked into place and stuck, then when I pushed it it ejected. When the drone was flying I hit the video button and it certainly acted like it was recording. Then I stopped that and pressed the camera button several times and it certainly acted like it took some pictures with that iris closing effect. Then when I put the card in the computer and clicked the USB drive icon it said "This folder is empty". Do you have any suggestions about that?

When I used the Camera and Video buttons from the phone, It worked both ways.
But when I used the camera and video buttons from the controller, only video worked. Not sure why. It's night time now. I'll try again tomorrow.

I have tried several times to make sure.
I am able to take still pictures or make a video using either the phone or the remote control.
I have no issue.
One observation...…. when using the remote control to take pictures, I needed to press the button twice. I would hear the "shutter" sound to indicate picture was taken.
Suggestion : It is better to connect the drone with your phone and use it to take pictures or videos.

Thank you man. I learned from a friend at work that the problem was my own ignorance/stupidity. I was putting the card in upside down. When I turned it over the correct way it went in all the way instead of about half way as I mentioned before. And! After that it took video and still photos also. They look pretty good...nice and clear with good color. The video was a bit shaky but it was quite windy so it should do better on calm days. The still photos look great. Thanks again for your help, and thank you for recommending this nice little drone! It is awesome for the money, imo.

Glad you like that Z5. You are welcome.
Enjoy playing with it.
When you get better and feel comfortable with drones, next step is to try a brushless drone which I highly, highly, highly recommend MJX Bugs 3.
It's the best for the money, in my opinion.
It has no bells and whistles except an altitude hold option in "angle mode". No GPS, no Headless mode, no One key return etc etc, none. Just you, Bugs3 and the environment. If that does not excite you, you need to check your pulse.
It also has "Acro mode" which is for competent pilots.
Brushless motors are powerful but disciplined. I love every moment flying it.

My first choice was the Bugs 4W because it folds and has all the stuff I wanted and also a gimbal....at least I read someplace that it has a gimbal. But someone pointed out it's 5G which was the first I read of any significance associated with that, but looking into it found my phone won't handle 5G which leaves out most of the new drones as far as I can tell.

I had a very similar issue.
My Z5 got stuck high above a tree branch.
I shook it down but couldn't catch it. It crashed to the ground. After that, the camera must have broken because it would not connect to my cellphone. It would fly without camera and GPS but who wants that.
I ended up buying a new Z5 camera and it's back to normal. I am in Canada, and I bought the camera from Amazon.ca.
The Z5 camera is removable. So you can always replace it with a new one.
I do not know the severity of your crash. It can be just the camera, just like mine. But it can be something else.

P.S...….. Z5 comes with 2 versions of wifi cameras..…. 5 ghz wifi and 2.4 ghz wifi.
MAKE SURE you get the same camera version your Z5 is originally equipped with.
