Quads are very cool ! But this is............

I am also a fixed wing pilot as well as a Quadcopter pilot. I am a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) and a local R/C Model Flying Club. We see a lot of demos like these.

Those are pretty sweet, only down side with something that big is the inability to move the thing around, imagine with that virgin galactic one they have to take the wings off and still need a truck to move it around. Not an issue if you're already a pick up guy or whatever but probably can't throw it in a backpack like my quad. They are super nice looking though and fun to watch fly, have a buddy at work who does fixed wing (fighter jets mostly) and we're slowly but surely pulling him over to flying quads too. Think the closest I ever came to flying fixed wing was one of those wire attached fixed wing planes (appears they are 'vintage' now)

Haven't renewed my AMA for like 35 years.
I keep my AMA membership up because my R/C Flying Club is a AMA sanctioned club and I'm covered with the AMA Liability Insurance for 2 Million Dollars. I guess I'd have to destroy something really big to use that much.

Or just accidentally chop someone's finger off

Yah unfortunately the medical coverage part is only like 25 or 50K if I recall correctly so it's good for property damage but probably wouldn't really cover a ton in medical expenses depending on the kind of accident. Still I feel better having some sort of insurance than none at all and figure if I go fly at the forest preserve or dedicated fields people might ask about it.

It's not as cool looking as with them off..DOWN WITH PROP GUAR.......um, never mind me.

They are hard to keep on for me. They tend to break easier than props, then again my props do little more than sting when hit with them.

On the one that flew away, the prop guards were so floppy that if you did bump something, the guard tangled up in the prop.
