Quadcopter UK fliers Business Opportunity.

Hi to all, I'm new here saying Hello from the UK, I would like to make contsct with other users in the UK who would be keen to start a business with their drone(s).
I have purchased the Parrot AR Drone and have started a small business using the videoing capabilities of the drone, I am keen to expand the business to all areas of the UK at no cost to droners except for the drone/quadcopter, the business is to help people who are targetted by cowboy builders, scammers and provide aerial surveys at low cost working under my company name with no franchise costs. If anyone is interested please reply to this thread.

Welcome to the forum! I moved this to a more appropriate section. Hopefully you find some people here who are interested in doing business!

Hi Roger, I am curious to know if the parrot drone is proving to be up to the job? I have considered buying one
to help get an AP business started but wasn't sure how good the video and photos are from it.

The AR Drone is well up to the job but I've made improvements that include higher rated batteries. Video quality is very good if you use the USB port and aemory stick that gives better quality thah recording on tablet or phone which gives a fast timelapsed effect but still good quality I think the wi-fi is being made to do too many things but videos I've taken using memory stick are as good as any camcorder and much better than mobile phones.
The AR Drone is very upgradwble and I have got loads of bits for it including video lights, downeard and forward facing that make video quality even better, I'm going to fit my Go Pro camera to it as well, just waiting fro the mount to arrive from Germany (www.droneparts.de) Great for parts, I've bought parts off ebay but they all turned out to be cheap chinese copies, I always buy genuine parts now, bearing for the motors is a great upgrade the copper bushes provided for the rotor shafts are not energu efficient, there's a lot of friction that tends to drain batteries quickly. Droneparts do really good upfrated batteries with balace charger connections. Going to put videos on Yo Tube soon, hopefully

Thanks for that Roger. Am I understanding correctly that there is FPV on the drone and that the video is ok but the quality improves if you also record the vision onto a USB drive?

Although I am
Planning on building one, I might need something in a hurry so it's good to know if the parrot gives a good image
Cheers

Yesif you use aUSB memory stick THE IMAGE IS REALLY GOOD HD 1080P video and HD photographs. because of timelag over wi-fi recording to your tabley is not as crisp and it judders.

The latest upgradw to the Ar drone simulator app now has houses on it and allows fluing my new business in simulation mode over building structures, it's very cool someone on the sim team must have read my post because the buildings are English half timbered farm buildings

Hi Rog,

I am really curious to see the quality of video you can get from your parrot. Could you please post a video?
Is it possible to video things to the left or right of the drone even if it is moving forward? I realised the camera is probably fixed.
In which case, can the camera face, say west, whilst the drone moves north?

Cheers

I have not taken a video to upload yet, upgrading the Parrot drone in various ways and adding a Go Pro camera looking to the side. I've been busy having surgery for my cancer etc,
I will post video asap

Hi Rog,

I am sorry to hear you are ill. Please don't feel pressured. The reason I wanted to see your video is because I have been looking at a similar business to yourself and am interested in the results you have been getting.
Having said that, post when you are ready. Your posts so far have given me plenty of information on modifications to the parrot that I did not know were possible. So thanks for all your replies I really appreciate them

Have you tried the simulation app for the A R drone? the latest version has buildings that you can overfly and inspect using the 2 onboard cameras, it is very good and FREE. It gives you a great 'feeling' for the drone.

Roger - Hi,
I am also from the UK and like you are thinking about recouping the cost of my quad (not purchased yet).

You will need a licence to earn money; this is covered by Sec 166 & 7 of the Air Navigation Order (here is the link = http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CAP393.pdf)
You will need to take an exam which takes about an hour from the British Model Flyers Association (they issue the piece of paper than enables you to get the CAA licence)

I have just edited this and found out that you will need this qualification: =
http://www.eurousc.com/pilot-qualification-(bnuc-std).html

I got this info from (http://quadcopters.co.uk/) which has a comprehensive guide to the law on their website (here is the link = http://quadcopters.co.uk/unmanned-aerial-photography-videography-guide-30-w.asp ); I spoke to a guy there who told me the BBC recently paid for some video of a fire captured by a 'quad' but the BEEB have now withdrawn any payments to anyone without the licence.

OK That said; I am still going ahead with a chance to get legal payment - Estate Agents, Weddings and if I was younger Sports Activities. Just read Section 167 (2c) of the CAA Order - it says "not within 50 metres blah blah of people NOT under your control" so if you have control of them i.e. you directing your shots then you should be OK.

The Regs are fairly new, 2012 I doubt whether the local police will have any knowledge of this type of Reg, I served 23-years in the Met Police and anything to do with air regulations were steered will clear of. I do however imagine that in short order as quads appear at weddings venues etc they with become aware of the Regs as it obviously presents potential health and safety issue.

I hope that helps

Hi Roger welcome mate i am in the uk to i have a 666mm quad with some very powerful motors , i would be interested ,but i know in other countries, you will need insurance but will also need a FAA license as you are making money for this , so you may need to look into this , there is a nice camera called a mubius 1080 its small, light weight, tiny, video is good will do still photos in the uk its about £70 on e bay take a look at this video may be great for the job they are that small you can fit 2 on a quad the only let down is it is not water proof but most not fly in the wet

UK to be flyer .
Hi I understand that you need CAA or US FAA to fly commercially. Is there one licence to fly worldwide or are the US FAA CAA recognised and excepted say in Europe or further afield. The last thing I want to do is fly in Spain and get prosecuted when I am up and running.

Hi Ivawhoppa there is a guy i know owns a model shop but flys Camera helis for films and has done film work in spain , you can always call him and ask he will know what you need if any thing..... Mainly Models 07931731333 his name is Barry
