f450 1x motor has no power

Hi all from Glasgow (in Scotland).Ive been flying gliders & fixed wing aircraft for a number of years and got into quadcopters just last year.Bought a Turnigy micro quad to show me the ropes, then moved up to a Chinese f450 with kk 2.0 controller and 20a esc's.
Worked great for a few weeks, but then one motor stopped turning;it now just "pulses".
Not knowing wh20140716_175124.jpg ether the motor or it's esc was faulty,i swapped the motor with a working one;still the same, hence i believe i have a defective esc.
My question is this:can i use ANY brand of 20a esc & also should i calibrate the esc's or will that already have been done at the factory?

Technically speaking, you could mix and match ESC's. You'd need to ensure the same specs and the same firmware to be safe, but honestly, if you can get your hands on the same ESC, I wouldn't risk mixing them.

There may be other distributors near you as well. As far as calibrating goes, once you get the new one on there, calibrate them all again. There are a bunch of youtube videos that show you how to calibrate ESC's with the KK2 board if you don't know how already.

Yeah, the ESC firm ware needs to be "flashed" before you can use it. It should be flashed identical to the others. Some come pre flashed so you could see if you could just get the same one but like mm said just reflash them all the same. I have never done it but have looked over the program and seen the flashing tool, doesnt look too tough.

You don't necessarily have to reflash the firmware if you buy the same ESC with the same firmware. You just need to re-calibrate them. Flashing usually means pulling off the heat-shrink and attaching to the pads (if available) or directly to the legs of the chip (assuming it's Amtel, which I don't know if those even are).

You'll need this tool:

Or you'll have to do something like this:

or this if your ESC has the pads:

Also, I do not have any experience.with kk boards. I have only used DJI controllers. So mm would be a Better resource than me.
And I'm not the best to answer kk questions either! I started with kk and quickly moved on to OpenPilot and DJI. I keep meaning to do another kk build just to get the experience since a lot of the questions here seem to be around KK builds.
