Help with APM Planner v2.0.20

Hi all. New to the forum and first post. Im building my first quadcopter and just received my apm 2.8 this afternoon. I attempted to flash using APM planner. It does the flash, says complete, but then there are no options to setup the rest of the software/setup accelerometer, compass, etc. I searched this forum and don't see any step by step and don't find anything on youtube. They are all older versions of APM planner and it doesn't have the same gui. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just a gentle nudge in the correct direction. Thanks for any help you can give me.
 
Ok, well forget that first post. I found another post that says that APM planner and Mission planner are two different programs and I was attempting to use the wrong one. Not sure what software the APM planner uses, but the Mission planner works much better.

Well I'm still only in DEP, with a contract for 1C6x1 so I have not went through BMT yet (my job does not ship until August hahaha). Sometime during BMT (tech school at the latest) I should find out what area, but I am strongly hoping for space lift at Patrick AFB in Cape Canaveral, FL. I have around a 25% chance I suppose as there are only four initial bases for this AFSC. So I suppose I'm the one who should be asking you how you liked it hahaha
