First Quad Build

I caught the itch its official! I'm flying a nano qx right now and its a blast but I want to start getting into custom builds. I really want to build a fpv racing quadcopter so I'm looking for kit ideas that are easily upgraded. I also want input on batteries, I'd really like to have the high C rating battery for obvious reasons, but also want a setup where there is longer battery life in the 10-12 minute range just for practicing and cruising around. I'm not sure if this is ideal at all but was hoping for input.

Sounds like you want two quads, a 400-500 and a 230-250.
 
One of my projects is a compromise. I am making my arms 5 1/4" long. I am using 2306 2050kv motors. When using 5" or 6" props it should boogy pretty well. Not like a 250 racer ( I'll be closer to 310) but exciting enough for now. When I want to slow things down and get longer flight times I'll have just enough room for 8x2.7 props. With the 8 inch props I can use a larger battery and am looking for at least 20 minute flights. The longer arms will slow things down enough to suit me when using the smaller high pitch props. None of this requires me to change any settings, just the props and battery. For yours, just look on line for motor mounts and pick the ones that suit your arms and motors. They will give you at least an inch in arm length. The drawback is your wheelbase will no longer be square unless you can angle each one slightly forward in the front and slightly backward in the rear. That should get you close enough to not upset the controller. With some care angling the mounts you should be able to do what you want cheap and easy.

Can you post pictures?
 
I don't really have much of anything to send pictures of at this point. It's mostly just a bunch of un-assembled stuff. Plus mine will be mostly wood. I assume you want to do CF in a 220-250 size. I am not very familiar with the various FPV racing frames. Maybe GJH105775 can contact some of the members that are and they can head you in the right direction. Whatever you do, don't be swayed by " The Dark Side".......... That's what I'm going to call the really cheap stuff from now on. It's false economy and frustrating. You end up replacing it with the good stuff later anyway. You'll see posts of people buying extra motors and esc's for their build because they expect them to fail! Buy good stuff and you won't have to do that. Ha! the sermon is over:rolleyes:. Go have fun!!

Yeah, you usually end up replacing before even getting it in the air, if not shortly thereafter.
 
Hey. This thread got me curious. Check out the FPV racer options on the AMain hobbies.com site. They have some that look like they would be easily changeable and adjustable for fine tuning.
