I lost my quad!

Fishy Tree

Yup, I wrecked again...
Hey guys, I lost my damn quad! I was doing some night flying (witch is the most fun to me) and got it stuck about 65-75 feet up in a very old and large Catalpa tree after my battery died mid flight. My first thought was to blow up the tree with Tannerite to get it down. Of course, I was just upset and did not do this.(although I could have)

After about 2 hours of throwing golf balls and casting fishing lines in the dark I decided to give up for the night as it was a clear night, but quite windy. I figured it would blow out during the night, witch it must have because I came out the next day around 11AM and it was gone. No longer in the tree, but no where around it ether. My father, brother and I searched a 150 foot radius all day. My next door neighbor even spent the entire day using his FPV quad assisting in the search, and my cousin brought her metal detector. no luck. We did find a Hot Wheels car, a Camaro, witch I kept :)

Anyway after an entire day of searching we decided to call of the search. Not a half mile from my house is a very popular weekend destination for the entire county. So we all assume some one found it and kept it. I put a lost and found ad on my local Craigslist but have heard nothing.

I have to admit this because I feel it's relevant. I honestly cried for about 10-20 minutes. It's only $150 LaTrax Alias, but it was my first quadcopter and I was very sad to lose it. It's ok though, I am already in the process of building a new, all white Alias. I already have so many parts for the Alias, that I can build a new one for under $80. Worth it to me.

Just left this thread to share my experience in actually losing a quad for good. If anyone else has had to experience this tragic experience, please share it!

HI I second that, its a shame , quads and trees never mix well ,Some times its worth to put a sticker on with you Phone number so if it does this again you can get it back , the only down side is if you crash into some ones car and damage it they have you number

Sorry to hear that also, I'd probably cry too if I lost mine like that haha, though I would have been getting that tanerite and a rifle out even if it were 3AM >:)

I saw that video a long time ago before I ever even had a quad. I have been trying to find it for a while now, so thanks!

Should be back in the air by mid June at the latest. All white frame, battery cage and canopy arrived today. only cost like $15 with saved eBay Bucks!!! I have plenty of spare motors from my old one, so no need to buy more. Spur gears, shafts, rotors, bearings, these were all things I also have plenty of. When I bought it I didn't know what would last and what wouldn't so I bought some of everything.
All I need now is the main receiver board witch is just under $70. and some different colored light bars, I have spares from the old one, so these are not needed; I just want different colors then red and white.

Still sad but so happy that I'm literally one eBay purchase from going out again! My original guess of under $80 might have been a bit low as it turns out. I have already spent around $15, and need to spend at least $65-$70 more. But given the fact that I spent about the price of the quad in spare parts only days after I bought it after reading "horror stories" online of lemon Alias's. I thought It seemed worth it to build a new one. I will admit, nostalgia played a role :). It's my first quadcopter, I have to replace it before I can truly move on lol.

Hi mate Down time is always a sad time , its hard to say what spares to carry as not all crashes are the same , But I am very glad your getting sorted and will be buzzing a round real soon

Haha, order any extras?

Of course! I got 2 new batteries, (I already have 3 :) ) Orange and green LED lenses and 4 extra motors just because I had the $! Once the quad is in the air I will be ordering the camera that is designed for the Alias for sure; and maybe the LED light bar that is also designed for the Alias for night flying. They cannot be used together as far as I know, So I may skip on the LED bar.

I will be posting pics later tonight of the progress.

Well it's all together! However, I didn't realize that one of the buttons on my controller was broken. So it cannot be synced to the new board. So I ordered one =/.

So.... close! You will have to post some video once you are back in the air.

Yeah I will, I will be ordering the camera that is designed for the Alias and the wide angle lens. I will order it ether tomorrow or Friday. The transmitter and camera gear should arrive around the same time if I order them soon

Sounds good, does it have a live out FPV setup?
