Hello, totally new, questions...

Hi, so I'm new here, without going in to too much detail, I've had a soft spot for RC soft since I was little, but always remained on the watcher side. Recently I saw a quad flying around my neighbourhood and remembered that I never actually got to build anything rc related and decided its time to take action and build one before I finish uni.

I want to build one from parts rather than buying one that's already build, since I know that if something breaks a I'll atleast know what to look for as a replacement, also maintenance and tuning will be possible on a self made one. The purpose of the quad... I really don't know.... just fly around... seems like a nice thing to try out, but I don't dismiss the fact I'd like it to be able to do FPV and maybe some more serious acrobatic stuff laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaater on.

My questions:
1) Would it be possible to assemble ( everything included down to the last wire) an "ok" quad for around 200 pounds/ 280 euro / 300 USD ?

2) Is there any favourable/popular/tested-and-working build/plan dominating regarding "do it
youtself" rc quads? - If there are, I'd like to know them. If you have build something near my listed budged and it works, please do share also including something you could/would have changed if you knew that earlier.

3) Where should I be looking to get all the parts once I have an idea/plan/build ? ( EU retailer would be the best )

Ideally I'd like someone with some expertise in this stuff, to recommend me the parts, since I have no knowledge in it, it makes very little difference to me as long as it flies, with the "expertise" I have now, the only thing I could do is... choose a color for the frame, lol.

I want to view all my options, order and start working as soon as possible!

Here is my build log, it is full of comments on what I would do better. It is near your price range if you are careful on how you order (try to get everything at once to avoid double shipping). If I were you I'd go for a smaller 250mm quadcopter, the one I build is 370mm(diagonally from motor mount to motor mount). This would allow you to do more accrobatic stuff. It is about the same to make a larger one as a smaller one. All you have to change are the motors, props, nad sometimes the ESCs.

Hi mate a 450 will be in the price range you want ,the biggest killer to the budget will be transmitter and receiver , Hobby king has a good clone 450 flame wheel or even a 600 size they are so cheap I normally buy 2 and have one for spares and also have a EU ware house this is the frame I mean takes a crash well normally snaps an arm but these are sold as pairs , the second link to a frame would be great for fpv and a camera gimbal to mount under it

I'm planning on maybe going with a 250mm and probably with an identical build Bruce is trying to do in the youtube series you posted, can you comment on the end results he will achieve with the parts he choose? Would it be a suitable starter for me?

EDIT: Ill list the part I will probably be going unless Bruce decides changes something at the end of the video series.

His list is still missing a battery/transmitter/receiver - any suggestions/guesses what he will use?

Hi mate I just posted part 3 on that build , he has a few to use LOL , well all you need is a programmable transmitter ,you may pick up a really good Dx6i or DX7 on ebay as there are loads of new transmitters out now so guys are upgrading , if not this sort of thing you need to look at , hobby king does an orange dx6i clone but your have to get from the hong kong site

What about the battery, how much power, what kind ? Also will all these parts work with the flight control chips and ecs, etc? As much as I want to start this, I think the most realistic scenario is that I will have to wait for the video series to finish until I can see a working end products and the complete parts package.

Hi Mate it is normally a 4cell 1300 to 1500mah on a 250 quad , I think Bruce has listed the parts on video one , it will work well he has been doing mini quads a lot so knows what works

Hi mate I think it will be 4 cell 1300 to 1500mah , as for charger a 4 button lipo charger , receiver will be 4 channel min and will match transmitter so you need to look for a good second hand Dx6i or DX7 and receiver here are some links

Ok he posted part 4. It seems he uses these, no links so I just found similar looking on hobby ( hope they are the same ):

Receiver:

This battery ( BUT I DONT KNOW IF HE USES THE 2 cell or 3 cell model )
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...ack_EU_Warehouse_.html?strSearch=turnigy 1500

What kind of transmiter would work with that receiver?

A few weeks/month (I don't have good memory on time xD) ago I was searching around to find a good budget Tx/Rx Orange, and the Turnigy 9X were the most mentioned.

Most racers like to use 4S so I checked HK:
I could not find any 2300KV motors that would handle 4s so I looked for a little lower kv (extra voltage makes up for that), and could not find any on hobbyking that did not raise the price a lot.
