X5C-1 video problem

The bad weather went north of us so I took the x5c-1 out front for s little close in night flying. Wanted to checkout the video not really expecting anything create because of ghd lighting. Instead when I pull the camera button down to start the video nothing happens, no beep, no flashing red light. It does take stills but not video.

Anyone came across this issue? I bought it from Amazon so I contacted them and waiting for a reply. Can't decide if it's a transmitter issue or camera issue.

My X8C has the same cam, but in a 2nd case to look different. I took it out of the bigger case and noticed the wires right at the cam itself are very fragile looking. Also inside the cam itself the solder is poor to say the least. There are 3 leads coming in. I'm no expect by any means, but I assume, 1 for stills, 1 for video and 1 common? Maybe you have a bad connection on 1?

How full is your SD card? If it is close to full the camara may still allow photos but not video because of lack of available memory. Try this if there is anything you want to save on the card save it on your computer then reformat the card fat32. This may help may not but worth a try, if you have another SD card available you may want to try swapping out.

Was looking at getting the Syma X8C as it was bigger and had better flying time. But decided to keep the X5C-1 don't know how much I would really use the camera anyway more of a novelty. So now I have a nice flying $28 quad.

I'm sure I will dig into the problem and see if it's something I can fix like a loose wire.

MikeR: Good tip but the SD card is empty.

I had problems with the video/photo on my X5C-1 almost from the start. 0 byte files, not being able to access the card to see if it actually recorded and poor transfers to my PC - Then just a dead camera. I found out through a lot of research that I was the problem not the card or camera. There is a process you need to follow or the camera will act as dead as a doornail. I've outlined the proper steps in my post Syma X5C-1 Tips and Techniques here on the Newb Guides forum. It works for me and I've had no more problems other than my own ID ten T errors. Not sure if it helps in your case but it worked for me.

Update: After several emails with the supplier Cheerwing (purchased through Amazon) they sent me a new transmitter to try. It arrived today, installed the batteries and gave it a try not expecting much, but low and behold the video camera now works. Now I need some longer screws so I can mount the camera level.

While we're on the subject, does anyone know if there is a size limit to the sd cards which can be used with the X5C-1?

You would lose your footage once the battery dies unless you manually stop filming before that happens. I don't think even 8 or 9 minutes (if you're lucky) would fill the 4 Gig card that comes with the X5C-1. I have 8 batteries and have not had a problem spanning flights over that range. I do get 0 [zero] byte files if the quad loses power while the camera is still active. I download after each outing so I don't hold a lot on the card over different days. How much time are you planning on filming? Or is it just the convenience of never downloading :)

If you no longer need the bumpers on her, the long screws that hold them on will work to str8n the camera view. I got extra from the crash kit I purchased so I used those.
[edit to add] I'm still a chicken and fly with the bumpers on. :rolleyes:

Hehe I still need the bumpers but bought a kit that had landing skids, blade guards, & props. It also included prop screws & blade guards screws. So I used the screws from the kit & a small rubber spacer made from the gimbil protectors.

I was just wondering really, I like to go the max with storage cards for things but now you've pointed it out, it does depend entirely on battery life.
Doesn't seem much point in going for a larger capacity card.
I was planning on getting at least 4 more batteries plus a decent multi-charger so thanks for the info.

With all the back -n-forth with Cheerwing I ended up with 3 TX. My original (no video), a blue led power light & a green led power light. The green led power light is for a different board than my x5c-1 has.

I didn't pay for the replacements and the green led one isn't of much use to me, it will fly my x5c-1 but the controls are real touchy. So if any of you here need a green led power light TX for your x5c-1 I will send it to you for shipping. Shipping to US only as I don't want to deal with paper work to ship outside the US.
