Yesterday, after a good Fathers Day meal, I turned my attention to my new quad. I started out with checking out videos on how to bind it to my tx. I knew the basic idea but wanted to be sure it wasn't different.
The thing I noticed on many of the videos is that everyone that makes a video will always struggle to plug in a battery at the same time as pressing the bind button. Why do they not power the board with the USB plug, which does the same thing as the battery and is infinitely easier to plug in? I am aware some boards do not power up by the USB but I have yet to see one in the videos I have watched.
And the more aggravating thing is getting a board into boot mode.
EVERY video I have watched on the subject and even the Betaflight instructions tell you to drop a dollop of solder on the boot pads to get the board into boot mode. To my recollection, no one mentions removing the solder afterward, and at least BF had that step included. The big why is the need for solder. I learned that you can touch a paperclip, or in my case a pair of needle nose tweezers, and it will kick the board into boot mode until it is disconnected. That would have saved me 30 mins and aggravation.
On a good note, my SPC Maker 90X is ready to take its maiden flight.......come on 2:30!
