Why must the few mess it up for us all

Time for a rant , Why must a few idiot multirotor pilots ( if you can call them that ) mess up this hobby for the rest of us , I have been flying at the historic wrest park for over a year , never had a problem
But now some Idiot with a multirotor crashes into the back of the historic house , the multirotor was grabbed and the camera smart card was watch by the owners of the house it showed the flight and looked as if the pilot was looking for a weak spot to break in all windows and doors was on the video the Police have now got the item
But now this is the end of flying here , and thats a real shame so now having to find a new place to fly
( thank you Mr idiot for this ) you will never get to read this , as this site only has real true Pilots on it

On another forum, somebody flying a Phantom asked about quad flying in Sydney. Now as we all know... the various Air regulatory bodies in different countries - have different regulation and apply them as and when needed. Sydney comes into two basic categories when it comes to quad flying.
A while ago yet another idiot Phantom flyer crashed into/onto the Sydney Harbor bridge. I say idiot because he/she should have known that flying into a mass of steel girders is bound to interfere with the GPS and and also the transmitter signal - which may have been the cause of the crash. Result total ban on flying anywhere near the bridge.
So the guy on the forum was advised to stay away from the bridge.

Local councils and National /CAA regulation.
ALL aussie public parks/Gardens and National Parks ( most are just miles of trees!) BAN any form of aircraft flying - sometimes even Kites on Beaches.
BUT the other part of Aussie and its CAA is that - so far they have been really lenient and not joined the global rush to ban "drones" or enforce registration.
One guy ( videos on YT) in Sydney on a regular basis flies/has flown a nice yellow parrot - the quad not the two winged squawky bird - in and around the Botanical gardens, but he seldom if ever goes higher than the trees and also stays at the back of the park in what is known here as "The Domain" -its open and where they do open air concerts and Carols in the Park at Crimbo. Not many people about there. And he has never been challenged or banned.
I passed this info to the guy asking and warned..KEEP AWAY FROM THE OPERA HOUSE.
The Opera House overlooks the bay - which is really Port Jackson, the ferry terminal, Museum of Modern Art, the Cruise ship terminal are all there and its a tourist magnet.
Its also classed as an high risk target and an high security area. There are at least two of each, Helicopters and float planes all buzzing around over the bay and around the bridge on a clockwise tourist flight tour.
A few days later a new thread starts.. "My First Encounter" it seems this ( words fail me) person... was in the Botanical Gardens flying his Phantom at "about 390" duh.. there is no about with a Phantom.. the screen shows its exact height... when suddenly an helicopter appeared to be heading for his quad. He decided not to descend and the chopper passed by.
Not to be put off... he then moved nearer the Opera House and was startled to be confronted by not less that 7 security guards! Who - in my opinion having found he was not a security threat and just an over eager tourist... warned him off and let it drop!

I went on his threadand basically lambasted him for causing incident that could well of damaged a chopper and injured the pilot/passenger and falling debris may have hit tourists.

Back to the no fly zones.... here almost every hospital as an HeliPad and comes under CAA flying regulations. Now I made a mistake! on the first thread I had mentioned this and used the term.. but fly with caution. The reason I said this is that we know we should contact airfield manager if flying with the radius of restrictions on the lesser airstrips, BUT an hospital never knows if its HeliPad is going to be used... so you cannot warn them really - hence caution - keep a look out.
We have a spate of Shark attacks and every victim is airlifted to an hospital that apart car crash and any incident /accident victims are taken by air because our roads are always jammed!

I thought anybody using a phantom and knowing the basics of air regulation anywhere would understand.
When I mentioned that Chopper dodging was not wise and that the area was also marked with an HeliPad restriction.. he turned an me about my fly with caution in Helipad area.
I asked if he had read that other thread - why did he ignore everything I said about flying near the opera house!
Now after three blackouts by MMs save and confuse them gizmo - above is as short as I can make it and shows that while some - most - all fly our quads with common sense others are all about ME ME ME ... this guy knew he was in for criticism flying in an area which ignoring everything else - bans aircraft flying of any type and the Opera House area is a major tourist attraction and has 100s if not 1000s of folk around it every day.
Aussie gets twitchy when tourist income is threatened! He could have stayed at the back in The Domain, gone up only 100 feet and still have had a panoramic view of everything.

Ending on a plus... NSW has announced its allocated $16million to provide "drones" to go out on Shark patrol over the next six months. So the worth and value of low cost air surveillance is being utilised and will give a plus publicity factor every time they spot a shark.... and it will allow me and others to get on the beaches and say... shark spotting mate!

I don't yet feel so bad about the coming laws in the US now, but still.... Have you noticed that most idiots fly Phantoms? Perhaps it is because they don't do as much research and get as immersed in the community before building buying? Though the no fly zones being added to the GPS is a great idea it is easily disabled, but why would anyone disable it if not meaning ill intent. Perhaps you should have to take a multiple choice online before buying RTF quads from DJI?

What I found on forums where phantoms have a section - is that having caused havoc in the airways by going above clouds and bragging about height reached - they are now focused on distance traveled out. Its OK (I think) in USA - LOS and over water etc,. but other countries do not allow.
being a pauper - I marvel at the fact that some can pump $2000 and more into a Phantom and then set out on a basically pointless exercise and have around an 80% chance of losing it due to loss of signal or whatever - then buying another and doing the same thing!
Going into Sydney we pass over the Hawksbury River .. which is a collection of bays and one days I said to teh boss...Wonder if teh Phantom can head out from the car par over to the other side. She replied... why not just drive around to it!

Everyone should not be punished for the action of one person. There are smarter ways to deter the ignorant, not just simply ban everyone. I believe that this is the easy way out of a situation that should not have happened.

I would argue the point that you should not cause everyone grief just for one person that is not good at judgment when it comes to flying in public space.

Agreed, but many people I have talked to outside of the hobby say they only hear of regular people doing bad things with quads, and the good they do hear are almost always government or professional pilots. So you can see why those outside the hobby are sided toward regulations due to their irrational fears.

The planet seems to have forgotten that RC aircraft be they fixed wing or Helis - have been around longer than ALL governments currently in power!
Neils example proves a point, the person concerned has legged it and escaped any repercussions at the loss of the quad. The land owner can only react - for self protection - by issuing a total ban. Protestations of innocence and good intentions are ignored.
People do not want hassle - police have enough to do - so they say - and do not want to be chasing errant quad flyers.
IMO this is why the USA want regulation and registration. And Neils intruder would be traced from the registration on the quad...is the theory! Scum will simply remover the sticker!
My thoughts are.... allocate open land and/or specific park area's and allow quad users - they make skateboard parks etc,. Why not a 250 racing circuit and some fields to fly around....

It was really fun and easy to fly! Last night decided to see how far I can get. Went to open field and only got to 1000ft before signal lost and RTH. Extremely disappointed!
I got home and wondered if I should returned it for the advanced. Then I see videos of people going 3 miles out! I thought that maximum range for adv/pro was 1.2 miles at the best condition. I looked at DJI website and now it's 3.1 miles...when did that changed? Also the camera is now 2.7k instead of 1080p. For these reasons I am returning the Standard and ordered advanced directly from DJI website.

Is it me or this guy a potential numpty?
How do you educate this type of "quad flyer" to read the guidelines and act in a responsible manner?

That is somewhat reckless as anyone who has a little experience knows, but makes you really wonder if RTF models such as that should have such a range hahaha, though if it gets lost it is the owner's wallet hahaha.

Seriously though there may be truth in the notion that someone who builds they're own quad may put more thought & research into the sport vs some that buy RTF quads opens the box & flies. I read another thread where someone wanted to know compatibility on 2 slightly different Syma RTF quads because they bought one and his 13 year old son liked it so he gave it to the son & bought another for himself. Hopefully that came with some oversight for junior.

Hey Neil. I don't know how much they cost in the UK but surveillance cameras and automatic game cameras are not usually that expensive. Perhaps you and other responsible fliers can approach the owner about you guys monitoring the property with cameras. Check with the police first. They may even be allies and put in a good word for you. Maybe the owner will like the idea and you'll get your field back.
