Hi mate sorry to here this , any way welcome to the forum , I would say that flying a quad with a normal transmitter will not work for you as you need to control throttle on one hand and cyclic on the other, I have seen toy quads that fly off an I PAD, so there is no sticks to hold it all on touch screen , So you may be able to get full control with one hand by using 2 fingers or thumb and middle finger this will work so you can enjoy the hobby your wifes son
There are quads that fly way points but your input would just be on a PC to tell quad where to go , but this is not the flying you mean
WOW just had a light come on , How about a DJI phantom , I will try and explain , the Phantom once in full naza mode will control most of its own flight , your need help to calibrate the compass but as for the flight your be well able
Ok to go deeper into this once the phantom is set up and ready for flight lets say your son helps with battery and calibration so its ready to go ,Now you flick the switch to CL mode ( course lock ) now get your son to arm the motors , they spin when armed you can now use your good hand to throttle up , The phantom will take off, the transmitter on the phantom throttle is sprung the the middle so it will hover with no more input , you can now use your good hand to fly the quad around , if you let go of the cyclic the quad will just stop and hover , so you can now use throttle or rudder , then go back to cyclic again the GPS will hold height and position , the fail safe will return the quad home and land so if you get into trouble just switch on fail safe , your need help to disarm the motors once its down , I really think if your heart is set on this then the phantom is the quad for you , it will carry a camera so you can video your flight , the Phantom 1 is very cheap right now as its the old one , but this will do every thing you want , the new P2 and P3 have auto take off but I do really think you can do this even if you have to get your son to do the take off and landing your still can do the flying part
So what do you think of that idea , it sound great to me the Phantom is the best at this job
