Use satellite to increase range? :)

Hello, I have an old satellite and instead of throwing it way I thought I could use it to increase my range. If I attached an arial to the sensor of the satellite. Would it work? Or would it be a waste of time. If I pointed it so the satellite was always facing the drone could I make use from this? Or am I better of buying a better arial for my remote controller?

Hi mate the range of the transmitter is normally done by the chip set and how many milli-watts of out put it has , the use of sat receivers is so that an antenna is always facing the transmitter also if the receiver is deep in the frame the sat can be used to bring the antenna outside the frame used a lot on Carbon frames as Carbon blocks the signal to the receiver

Satellite Antennas (actually all antennas) are resonant (optimum) at the designed frequency. As long as the quad frequency matches, I would think it might help. Probably some other issues need to be considered. But that is my take. .

The parabolics of a satellite dish are designed to receive signals from very long distances so it has a very narrow feild of view, you would have to fly directly in front of the dish all the time or have the dish tracking the quad otherwise you would fly out of the field of view and most likely lose signal.
