Hi,
For various research and industry applications (I'm a robotics researcher), we need a quad with a specific, probably unique set of requirements and was hoping to get some tips:
- we want to be able to stably fly the quad along long forest paths under the tree canopy, a few metres above the water along 1 or 2 km sections of creeks, and through and around man made things like large passenger planes, wrecked or on fire building sites, under bridges (so need FPV). Can probably assume that we can maintain some vicinity to the quad, say a few hundred metres. Not sure how much problem trees and various structures cause to FPV.
- we need to be able to come back weeks or months later and repeat the journey as closely as possible. In open areas, this might be approximately feasible I imagine with GPS waypoints, otherwise using the FPV and trying to repeat the previously recorded route
- journey may occur in poor or smoky lighting conditions
- we imagine that having some sort of non-gps altitude control (laser, ultrasonic etc...) would aid a lot in doing the above
- want a few hundred grams of excess payload to mount extra GoPros, sensors
- doesn't have to be fast
Open to off shelf or modified off shelf options, preferably not built from scratch suggestions.
At this stage was just thinking a Phantom 3 Advanced or similar. We have some limited experience flying smaller quads and can either train up or get a pilot to do this for us.
Thanks for any tips,
M
