Two Questions, Syma X5 - batteries and camera

ok,

I have a few flights under my belt and looking forward to more.

Just a couple quick questions. I want more batteries to fly with. I bought a 6 pack
of Keenstonen 720 mah 20C 2.7wh and they are providing 8+ minutes of flight time without the camera on board. But the tiny plastic usb charger is not making good connection
and taking hours to charge (3 hours) and tonight I had one dead battery even after charging.

What size and brand battery do you suggest and is there a charger that will do both 1 and 2 and even 3 cell lipo charging so I can use it when I move up in copters?

Looking to buy a second syma, is there another version of the X5 that will
do FPV or do I buy the $50 add on FPV set up or just step up to something more
racey or robust?

I like the idea of just flying Syma X5's for now. I have all the spare parts (have not broken anything yet) and easy to teach my grandson

Hey man, I have officially become a member to this forum 30 seconds ago, However I own the Syma xc5-1, the upgraded version of the syam xc5, this in my opinion is the best qaudcopter for your buck and it's super durable. However I have bought different batteries for it and the flight time doesn't change a whole lot, just stick with the original batteries and if you are using a laptop... when the laptop turns off it no loner charges the batteries. If you are looking for a cheaper FPV qaudcopter check out the JJRC H8D qaud.

A good charger is probably one of the better purchases you can make for the hobby..An authentic Imax B6 is pretty popular.

The chargers that come with these quads charge at a fairly slow pace and rely on the battery having an overcharge protection chip installed on them for safety.

The more Mah a battery has the longer its going to take to charge if you cant increase amperage, which you cant on the stock usb chargers

The Syma FPV kit would be a great addition to the x5..Its among one of the better fpv kits used by toy quad makers...It is truly plug and play...I would expect 5 to 6 minutes of fpv flying with the batteries you have for it depending on how aggressive you might fly it.

If you replace the stock battery with another cheap battery by a different manufacturer, sure you're going to get the same runtime. But a quality battery Will make a difference. Most of the ratings are on the cheap brands are highly inflated. I buy all my batteries from a local company here in Canada and they're really nice. The stock battery in my X6 Tarantula gives me 7 1/2 minutes. Although pricey, this one has the same rating but the first time I tested it, I got 14 minutes and 35 seconds.

Yeah, maybe.... I pretty sure some guy on youtube put a 900 mah in a syma xc5-1 and it kept it going for a while, however i believe he said the motors didn't last long.

Yep. better batteries of the same size is one thing, but bigger is not always better. I've got a little guy that runs on a 350mah so I tried a 700mah for S & G. It went forever but it was a total slug in the air due to all the extra weight

Hi, I am in a similar position to you.
I recently bought the SYMA X5-5, and some questionably labelled 800mAh batteries and a four way USB charger from Bangood.
Do not rely on the USB chargers, their accuracy in charging LIPO batteries is a bit hit and miss. Dodgy chargers kill LIPO batteries.
Looking further into the future and maybe building my own 250 size carbon frame copter, I purchased a Turnigy Reaktor 250w from Hobbyking :-

You also need a high current DC power supply. I got an original XBOX360 power supply, 12V DC @ 16.5A. Purchased off EBAY for peanuts.
I would also recommend a DELL DA-2 power supply (12V DC 18A). Modded it with banana plugs for the input sockets on the Reaktor.

I modded these by removing unneeded connectors and adding a couple of banana plugs, to make a 6 way parallel charging harness.

The way I see it, if you go the above route instead of purchasing a 50W charger like the SkyRC IMAX B6 (Great charger by the way), you will be only buying once and not needing
to upgrade chargers after a couple of years when you get more serious.

That's my 20c.

I have two SyYMA X5C and the 500 mAh batteries are the best weight for power ratio. I fly FPV using the 5.8G FPV kit for the SYMA X5C. With brand new 500 mAh batteries, you will fly for about 6 minutes at the highest rate. Depending on how often you charge and discharge the 500mAh batteries, you will eventually find that the batteries will no longer fly with the FPV unit on board. A 750mAh battery brand new, will only give you an additional 1 minute of flight time with the FPV kit on board.

Avoid the stock charger. Purchase a good balance charger. If you plan on staying with this hobby, you will need something like a Xmax B6 mini balance charger.
