Hi
Having read and reserched quad copters for beginers , finaly settled for a traxxas alias.
Just as he got great at flying it and confedent ,my son flew it in to a tree branch and trying to get it free
Buggerd one motor. So i purcased 4 more for about $40.00 au .
All good for a wile then the motors wouldent lift it off the ground ,emailed the suppliers to find out they are good for 6-8 hours flying time.(WTF)
This must be the biggest rip off this century , as no mention of this is in the advrtising and in small print with the replacement motors.
Is this a problem with all quadcopeters or just this make ?
I am concernd as he would like to up grade to a more exspencive modle and im not keen on the high price of maintanance if this is standerd.

Yeah, coreless motors are absolute crap, but they are cheap. If you could find anything with brushless motors (like hobby grade) you could do well. The reason those tiny motors don't usually need to last long is that they will be bent at some point. I have hat one go bad with 3 hours of flying with no crashes, so they are terrible.


What type of budget do you have?

Been looking on and off for 6 month but all to confusing and gives me a head ache

Ok, few questions, these are your trade offs, what do you prefer:


Small quad:Big quad
Speed: Fast:Slower
Lift: Little:More
Cost: Same:same
Flight time: Short:Longer

Size of a Dji phantom or simalar

Ok, great so all that adds up to around a 450mm size, I think you would like Mutiwii, maybe the Naza, but I personally don't trust the NAZA (I have never used the Naza personally).

With that budget you could get a DJI, but you may get more bang for your buck building one, so what type of camera do you plan on putting on it, GoPro, or DSLR?

I have a gopro,
Happy to spend a bit more for a good rtf quad but my son 14 might give it a go if the incentive was there.
Is there a big difference in price? How difficult are they to build?

If you have build and have all of the parts you could get one together in 15-25 minutes. For you it may be longer, and you can only work as fast as you can get the parts. As for price it really depends, the answer is sometimes yes, ans sometimes no. Take a look at a guide I am working on, it is about 70% complete, so not the done. I have to convert the format from a printed display to a online post still also.

Hi mate the Naza FCB is one of the best, people have reported fly aways , I have done a lot of testing and the only way I can get it to play up is fly it when it does not have full GPS lock, If you then pop into GPS mode it will mess about as the lock is not there, so if you want a dji naza FCB your not have any problems if set upright before you fly

Haha, nothing like a picture to say it all, but in truth I can have mine completely broken down, and get it all together, including the soldering in that time, my frame has more to it than most pre-built frames, though I can get the soldering done fast as I have soldered professionally, and have a lot of experience with it. With all new parts you can get one together fast, the tuning is not included in that estimation though.
