*We're also sending this out as an email to registered members.

There's nothing worse than getting this email from the company who hosts your web servers:

Unfortunately, the site was down for more than a full day before they got to this point. From there, we had to spin up a new environment and restore our own backups. We just got everything working a few minutes ago.

Even more unfortunately, our backups are huge, so we only back up once per day. When the server failed, we were in the middle of our Saturday night / Sunday morning backup, so we didn't get a full backup there. That means that the last set of good data we had was from our Friday night / Saturday morning backup. We've gone through the logs and it looks like if you posted anything after Friday at 20:03 Pacific time, it was lost.

Luckily, we were able to restore everything else.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and hope you'll continue trust the forum as a place to interact with the multirotor community.

At this point, everything is very stable. Catastrophic failures like the one that hit the environment we host in are extremely rare, and we're fortunate not to have lost more than a day of activity, due to our diligence in ensuring we always have good backups - but we're currently looking into ways to create even more redundancy and resiliency to keep from having these types of major issues in the future.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your loyalty to the forum!

DuaneM Drone? I don't see any drone ... crap!

Yea! I was wondering what happened, I tried to come in earlier today. I happy to see your back! AND very happy you backup once a day!

Could this be anything to do from the "WannaCryRansom" virus thingy going around? OR is really just a crashed server like you said in the email?

I think that is only affecting Windows and we don't run wine on our Linux servers, so I don't think that was the issue. The hosting company is typically pretty honest about issues, so I believe that their hypervisor simply got hosed. It is possible that it was due to issues with maintenance or monitoring and they were losing disks and didn't realize it until it was too late - but I wouldn't have any way of knowing that, so I don't want to speculate too much. I've been with them for five years now with no real issues, so I'll let this one slide =)

I post updates when the forum is down on twitter and facebook (that's really all I use those pages for). Your reply reminded me, so thanks! I should probably list that info in the post. I'll go update it now!

FWIW I was still having problems after the 'fix.' DNS errors. Had to change the DNS server to another one in my modem. Strange.

Thanks for the feedback. I assume that it's a caching issue somewhere, but I'll look through the DNS settings again to make sure that everything is updated properly.
