I have the Ai Freedom II, which is a Syma X8-series clone, as it uses many of the same parts. My first mods were to replace the 1800 mAh drone battery and 550 mAh throttle controller battery, with 2500, and 1200 mAh batteries respectively. The drone battery required a change of connectors, to allow for future tests flights with 3000, 3500, or 4000 mAh batteries. This afternoon, I finished replacing the original throttle controller antenna with a 2.4 Ghz wifi antenna. I used a 2 dbi antenna, as recommended by others that made the same throttle controller mod, though the coaxial cable and jack came with a 6 dbi antenna. So far it looks like control range had increased. I bought two of these antenna kits, and plan to perform the "tall tail" modification to the drone, replacing its original internal antenna also. I'm also going to reinforce the body, as I discovered that a few hard landings caused stress marks and at least one crack to form on the lower half of the fuselage. Has anybody figured out if the camera controls on the throttle controller can operate any other devices that might be mounted, such as retractable landing gear (one of my experimental projects to come)?
