I think youll have fun with hybrid quads more than RTF models...Every model has some sort of con to it and the fun is finding all the pros of them and mixing it all together to build something way more fun and reliable than a single rtf model.

I have quite a few different things id like to try still....With a "good" tarantula x6 board mounted to a much lighter DM007 body i think would be a nice combination..Maybe even the x6 motors if they would fit in the body.

One hybrid im sure will be awesome is a JJRC1000 board in pretty much any of the x5c or variations of...The pitch of the jjrc and even yaw is much more aggressive and can even support larger 8.5mm motors which says alot for that board...JJRC 1000 boards would be an improvement in ALOT of models.

The v666 board has been shipped but we know how that goes. Sometimes it doesn't move for days. I have a LemonRx receiver that is shipped but shows it's been sitting in Hong Kong for 5 days now.

Pulled the trigger on the x5c-1 BNF no camera $25.00 and a transmitter for another $12.00...i probably wont fly this one much in stock form..I have some major upgrades in mind for it...Off to work i go..Sigh.

I have an X8C - out of the box one of the motors was not running- swapped with the opposite one and the issue did not follow the motor. I did not pull it apart but i was able to move one of the power transistor with my fingers. I can go from the motor not running at all - to running without control to running perfectly as expected. The result - my X8C flies great but every once in a while it goes wacko usually follows a jolt from a landing -essentially the affected motor produces too much lift and it flips over. My suspicion is that there is a bad solder joint. I ordered a spare board and when that comes in I will open it up and see if i can repair it. One great thing about the Syma models is the abundance of parts available.

I broke a landing gear - purchased 4 new for $2, burned out a motor - 4 new for $7.50 .......

Yea, Syma has an abundance of parts support...An X8C is in the near future for me.

So i ordered my x5c-1 and transmotter from banggood usa warehouse...the quad showed 4 in stock..and more for the transmitter...They accept payment..they begin to process and in mid progress show everything is on back order. WTF?....im in it for $36.00 now they show a complete rtf with a camera for $40.00...Thinking about cancelling the first order and after i receive the refund get the one with a camera for $4.00 more...SMH...I was hoping to have it by monday or tuesday...So a bit of a delay now on having the X5C...sigh.

Problem solved..went to live chat and had the previous order cancelled..Will get my refund to my paypal in 72 hours...Ordered the RTF with camera...so, hopefully next week sometime ill get it.

I think the x5c-1 is still the best choice now because i've talked to a lot of reputable drone enthusiasts on youtube, like quadcopter 101 - and they all pretty much said that even though the x5c-1 is considered "toy grade', it is still the best bang for buck until you get into the 500$+ area. I love my x5c-1 i just really hate the short flight time and lack of a gimble to give a stable picture. i hope i get my phantom soon, i keep worrying that they will jack the price up or some law will make it impossible to buy them right when i get the money to buy it :(

looking at the pros and cons of the x5c-1 and the higher $200 models that still don't have a smooth fpv experience, and have still have only like 8-10 minute flight time, i feel like unless you get a phantom or another big boy drone, x5c-1 is the best to get.

As far a beginner model i have to agree...Its not very fast or sporty compared to alot of other models which is what makes it a great starter quad...Because of it popularity youll find a ton of parts support and some customization parts and even some upgrades to make it better as one grows along with it.

As far as for "under $500" you can get some bad to the bone quads for half that cost or even less compared to toy grade...The 250 class is pretty popular and they are fully fpv capable and stable.

Ive started a hop-up thread for when 8 get started on mine..Should be just a few more until its delivered to me...Ill probably fly it around stock for a day or so then get started with making changes as the parts i have coming for it start showing up.

New guy here. I have both the Syma x5c1 and the Nihui u807 and they are great starter quads. Plenty of in-depth reviews out there online so I won't try to rate them. They each have their pros and cons but suffice to say they are decent to learn on, are really stable, and won't break the bank. Good beginner quads if you crash or lose one because you won't feel like you just sent big $$ over the cliff.

There were some early version x8 transmitters that could control an X5 but not sure why anyone would want to fly an x8 with an x5 transmitter..Its a downgrade in that the x5 has much less range.
