Suitable charger

Hi

I am very new to all this type of flying as I previously flew nitro Helis, but now want to try drones.

I have ordered and they are winging their way to me as I type

1 x MJX X101 Drone with 3 in 1 charger, 3 x 7.4 volt batteries @ 1200mah

1 x SYMA X5SW Drone with 5 in 1 charger, 5 x 3.7 volt batteries at 500mah

Now I have a couple of questions please, are these lipo batteries SINGLE cell
Will they all charge together using the multi lead chargers supplied with the chargers supplied
Would I be better buying a New IMAX digital LCD RC LIPO NiMh Battery Balance charger
to charge the two different combinations of batteries

1s = 1 cell...2S = 2 cells....3s = 3 cells etc.........

Do yourself a favor and Invest in the Imax b6 or something similar to charge you batteries with..You can buy a parallel charge board and charge mutiple 1s lipos together without any issues in the same time or faster than it takes to charge one from the stock charger.

If you charge a single 500mah 1s lipo you would want to charger it at .5 amps or a half an amp to charge it within 1 hours time..If you have 5 on a parallel charge board you would need 2.5 amps to charge all 5 within the same hours time.

The chargers provided in the kits are designed to work with or charge 1 cell only..The amperage they supply is low and it would take hours to charge more than one cell.

You would be able to charge ALL of your batteries on the Imax B6...Im not sure about charging 1s and 2s together as i haven tried that but no matter what battery you have the imax has you covered.

Hi to answer the question if it 3.7 volt it's single cell ( lipos are made of single cell each 3.7 volts ) so the 7.4 will be 2 cell 11.1 is 3 cell just keep adding 3.7

Unless you are buying those newer LiHV batteries from HK that may or may not contain traces of graphene.

Thanks for the replys, with your help and loads of reading I am slowly learning more and more, I have done some research as a follow up to your answers and concluded the following.

I am going to order if you say they are ok the following two items

The only concern I have is looking at the plastic sockets on the board the one marked 2s is for the 2 cell battery which is on the MJX X101, but has the one for the SYMA drone the same plug on the end of the battery, as that battery is a single cell battery. so is that board capable of charging single cell as well as 2 cell by virtue of the fact that it has the same connector on the battery lead. I am still awaiting delivery of both drones and extra batteries so cannot answer my own question

If so I will go ahead and order the charger and board

The plug makes no difference and you can have the same plug on a 3s battery if thats what plug the manufacturer chose for it.

As long as you use the 2s battery mode for charging the 2s and, 1s mode for charging 1s you will be fine.

The board should be in parallel charging configuration which means if you wanted to charge 5 1s lipos you still chose 1s charge mode but with a higher mah setting.

X5 1s 250mah batteries would be 1,250mah so you would want to charge all 5 at 1.25 amps to charge all 5 in one hour.

The same for mutiple 2s batteries...x3 400mah would be 1200mah so, you would want to charger at 1.20 amps

Im not sure about charging both 1s and 2s together off the same board..Maybe someone who has done that before can answer that.

Thanks again for your replys, I am still not convinced about this board being able to charge 1s batteries, I have found the batteries on e bay as supplied with the SYMA drone which I have ordered and if you look carefully you will note that the connection has 2 ports in the plastic

If you then look at any of the parallel boards suitable for charging they all start off at 2s which shows 3 ports within the plastic

I seriously don't think that this board will fit the 1s connections unless I am missing something

The 3 ports etc within the plastic you talk about are just the balance ports for 2 to 6 cell batteries. You don't need a balance board as you're only charging 1 cell batteries. Just get a 1S charging harness like this

First, you don't have to worry about voltage. When you toggle through the battery types and select lipo, you'll be able to select 1S, 2S, etc. and you'll see the voltage change on the screen. 1S will be 3.7 volts.

And don't worry, you don't "have" to connect anything to a balance port even if it's a multi-cell battery. You can charge 3S-4S batteries without balancing (quick charge) but it will greatly decrease the life of your battery

When batteries are connected in parallel you maintain the same voltage but increase the Mah...So if you had 2 500mah batteries in parallel you still have 3.7v but a mah of 1000mah.. x5 batteries and you have 2500mah but still only 3.7v...So you would want to set your amperage to charge all 5 at 2.5 amps....You can charge with less amps if you wanted, it will just take longer to charge all 5 batteries.

When you charge a 2s lipo it has 2 cells mated together in Series to increase voltage but keep the same Mah...So a 2000mah 2s is really two 2000mah 1 cell 3.7v batteries connected together in series to produce double the voltage.

The balancing of a 7.4v is very important..This ensures both cells have the same amount of voltage...Ive never not balanced any 2s or larger battery..One cell that doesnt have the same voltage as the other creates resistance which then creates excess heat...Heat is the number 1 enemy of a battery and this will cause pre mature wear and kill the performance and life of the battery...Always use the balance ports when charging a 2s or greater...Its not that difficult to install one more plug before charging.
