Im new to these things and this is my first hobby grade quad with brushless motors and ESC. From what I understand, most ESCs have capacitors as part of the ESC, but for this set up they integrated them into the lower circuit board.

What ESCs are they using? This should be no problem to fix, what part stopped working? I doubt they would modify the ESCs nless they made them themselves. Otherwise this is probably just a PDB, filter and maybe BEC.

Can you tell if those capacitors are aluminum electrolytic, or OSCON?


Edit: If you damaged a capacitor then you are looking for:

Capacitance: 470uf
Voltage: 25v
Series: UT
Type: Aluminum Electrolytic
Style: SMD


But I think they used those to act as power filters for any high frequency noise.

Simonk 12amp ESCs. The part that stopped working is that it wont fly. :) no motors turn. I also lost lights and vtx power when I shorted out the board. I ran two wires (power and ground) to the power relay from the battery power plug and then ran two more from there to my vtx. I had it working and flying with fpv. had a few more crashes and battery changes and after the last battery change it stopped working. Strange thing is that on the last battery change, I actually landed, changed battery and then went to arm and it would not move. I tested power and ground to all ESCs and have 12 vts and good ground. I tested resistance from fcb pin 1-4 to each corresponding ESC and have no resistance (.1-3) something like that.

Do your ESCs have BECs? You may have lost something on the BEC's 5v so no receiver or FCB power. Does the BEC switch on with a relay? If so is it a latching or non-latching relay?

Ahhhhh.... You lost me. How do I find out if the ESCs have BECs or not? Looking at the printed circuit board from the link, there is a bunch of stuff that I have no idea what it does. I was hoping to get a new circuit board and disect this one to try and figure out where everything goes.

My Quad is back!
Here is the story.
I used this video to learn how to bypass the printed circuit board.
However unlike the guy in the video I did not remove my voltage regulator because I wanted to salvage parts of the PCB that did still work, so instead soldered right to it. The important part here is that the guy shows a wire diagram with the VR flipped over, putting 5vt on top and 12v on the bottom. I didn't notice that it was flipped so I soldered the 12v power to the 5vt side of the regulator. The result is that I damaged my FCB and my RX. I figured it out by replacing the FCB and then the rx then it worked. I tried both separate, but it needed both. I don't know exactly what I did but all I know is it arms and the motors spin. Im putting it back together and looking to fit in a test flight this afternoon. Thank you GJH105775 (can I just call you GJH?) for all your input and helping me work through the problem.

To recap, A poor soldering job caused a short that smoked the lower printed circuit board and a mistake in the PCB bypass procedure smoked the FCB and the RX. The lesson is dont be in a hurry when soldering, it makes a mess and costs money.
