Question about solder pads

Hello my very cool kwad friends!

Got a question about these new "half hole" solder pads (don't know the real term).

What is the point of this? Isn't a full pad easier to solder to? How are you supposed to solder to these?

I like them a lot. The edge of the board has copper on it too. More practical on a 4 in 1 as it allows you to add wires oriented pointing up or down, rather than out the side.

It just doesn't seem to have enough surface area for a good weld.

Okay so I tried 4 of these tiny half circle welds, I think they're pretty good lol. Maybe I'll enjoy the half holes when they're bigger? (Lighter added for size comparison I could barely see the welds lol.)
