Quad build

so my friend gave me a custom built f450 quad. It’s just the basic flyers. No bells or whistles. I’d like to take it further and add gps, alt hold, gimbal, return home and stuff like that. But I’ve never done anything like this.

I did get a DJI Naza V2 but now I’m trying to determine which controller and receiver I should get. I am looking at the fly sky. I’d like also to control the gimbal from the controller and have telemetry on the controller.

I bought the flysky i6 because it was my first Tx, cheap just to get into the hobby.
But I'm still using it after 2years. It's small compact size is just right for me. I think I've only ever had 2 dropouts. The only Tx I would buy next is the turnigy evolution.
Just for size, it's a throw in the bag, no worries type thing. When the cops show up lol swallow the sd card.

How many channels do I need?

5 will get you off the ground, but it depends on what you want to do.

Here's what I use on my Tarot:
Channels 1-4: A, E, T & R
C5: Flight Modes
C6: Failsafe
C7, 8 & 9: Gimbal tilt, pan & roll
C10: camera mode
C11 & 12: FC gain adjustment
C13: IOC & POI

Oh my! I thought 10 channels would be enough. Sounds like a really need to have a conversation with someone to make sure my bases are covered.

5 will get you off the ground, but it depends on what you want to do.

Well, some of these I only use because I have them and aren't necessary. Example, C11 & C12 aren't necessary as gain adjustment can be done on the ground. I never use C13. C7-10 could be reduced to 2 channels as I really only use tilt & pan. So 10 channels would be more that sufficient for an AP bird with 3-axis gimbal with GPS functionality.
