Problems binding FrSky XM+ to RadioMaster TX16S

Having a bit of a nightmare connecting my XM+ receiver to my RadioMaster TX16S. I had the XM+ previously bound to a Taranis but am now trying to use my new controller with it. I hold the bind button while plugging the battery in and get a solid red and green LED i believe meaning it is bind mode. I then select FrSky D16 mode on the radio and select bind but have no luck. I have also tried selecting bind on the radio before putting the receiver in bind mode and again no success. Would love to hear any suggestions. I have managed to bind and fly on a mini quad already which was FrSky D8 i believe
 
Hmm bind procedure sounds weird to me in the manual for that receiver:


Seems to say you do TX part first then do RX last to confirm binding but most modules I've used go the other way around where rx is started in binding mode and tx makes second connection then binding is saved on transmitter side was my rough understanding. See instructions there though.

Yes that's whats confused me. I'll have another go at it soon. If it doesn't work I think I will try removing the rx and flashing different firmwares until I can get it to work otherwise I don't know what this issue is. I assumed as I'd already flashed it with a taranis so that it was working in the uk them it would work with the radiomaster
 
Yah I'll see if I have one on something here too since have the same TX and slew of random receivers I've gotten it to work with. I also made my own custom esk8 tx and rx using Arduino+Nrf (nordic rf) boards, in that case there is a "pipe" used to filter out data and can pick the particular frequency/channel to use but these protocols typically jump around on the channels I think hence "spread spectrum" (know DSMX stuff builds on that spread spectrum tech from the navy but not sure with the frsky ones)... In any case just a matter of getting tx and rx to agree on some values for the given wireless protocol (in my esk8 remote case right channel/frequency and filtering pipe... Which I hardcoded but I imagine is what's agreed upon during "binding")
