noob jumping into first build. there for, noob questions.

Hey everyone. first time posting, first forum ive joined, and first quad build.

I've seen that they have rtf quads, or ready to fly. but they don't have what i want.
I want a luminier qav-r. and need to know exactly what to buy. obviously the frame... but in terms of quality parts that i wont be disapointed with..oh and keep in mind im still researching and learning what parts are,and also where they go lol.
My budget basically i can get what i want so it shouldnt be a problem...
Oh, i dont know if this helps but that guy skitzo is what i want to fly like. I know thats not just going to happen but im leaning towards a build similar to what he uses.

oh and havent done to much research on the actual "controllers" so maybe a decent one that is easy to learn with and has a long range because ill be pushing the limits with range all the time..

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

That is a reasonable ammount of experience on a popular model. You can learn a lot in 2 months depending on how frequent your flights were.


If you are going for a fast and fun build then I'd suggest some 30 amp ESCs, tri-blade 5x4.4 or two blade 6x4.5 DAL: props, a 4S battery either Tattu, Lumineer, or Bonka brand with the higher C race ratings. Probably the 1550 Tattu would be your cheapest option that would really treat you well. A nice 250 or even 270 frame of your chioce, makeing sure it had pleantu of room. A Turnigy 9xR pro or FrSky Taranis. I have and love my taranis, DAL props and Tattu batteries, and I highly suggest them though the Turnigy 9xR pro is great quality and I'd even have been perfectly happy with it. THe upgrades are also cheaper for it.


AS for FPV I'd suggest a Runcam for lower budget, or a GoPro for professional quality video, then a nice 600-800 TVL FPV board cam. As for goggles it all comes down to personal preference. THe Fatshark dominators have a ton of features and upgradable modules, but the Headplay goggles have a very big screen. I own the headplays and my only complaint is soem neck pain after prolonged use or the size for storage and shipping it to the field.

For the flight controller I'd suggest something that can do cleanflight or betaflight ,teh Race32 FCB is really awesome IMHO, though many 32-bit FCBs will do cleanflight.


These are all my personal preferences and optimal case however I know that in the real world money is not freely obtained so for someone getting into the hobby this is really expensive. If you give a price range we can tailor the build suggestions to fit it better. If you can afford this you will be one happy camper though I'd suggest you not look at your bank account for a while after :p

Thank you so much GJH, I have been watching videos of people building and it is a bit over whelming. I may start with a Ready to fly 250, and kinda go from there to help me understand a little better what is what and what goes where ya know?

But yeah i love the little hubsan x4 lol for like a month strait id fly any chance i got, always had 6 fresh batteries ready to go lol. Then i got sd card to see what it saw and i was like yeahhh im gunna need to upgrade to fpv this is way to cool to pass up lol.

I suggest you check out the Holybro Shuriken 180. I've got one that I'm doing a review on and it is awesome. It uses the flip 32 flight controller and many of the4 parts can be upgraded, though I'd suggest a mod to move the FPV antenna to the side, which actually would not even require soldering. I did mine that ay and love it. It is pre-tuned and handles great.

I should have an article detailing all of this by the end of the week. But if your from the US GetFPV.com has the Shuriken 180 and they ship fast from Florida but you'll need a comparable transmitter and receiver. The total price without the transmitter or goggles is just a bit over 300$ but it is awesome quality.

I can also get behind the falcon as a great started quad, if you were looking for a small amount more acrobatic flight the 180 version would also be a good start.


If your budget would accommodate the Holybro shuriken then that is my suggestion as the frame design is much stronger, but if that is not the case (it sure wasn't for me when I got started) then the Eachine Falcon would be a good solid start as it is a almost all inclusive kit. If you're interested in goggles the Headplays are great, but the Quantum V2, or one of the clones of those are also a great product that would fall into the lower price range.
