Newb Question about TBS

Hi there, I'm new to quadcopters, I have a Hubsan X4 on the way to me as we speak (just to fart around with and learn a little about how they're controlled)

I recently went through Painless's video series on the team blacksheep cube.
It was immediately clear that this is the way I would like to go build wise, it seems to have all the juice and ability to take whatever i can throw at it especially as a beginner, and being a minimalist I love the simple clean build it creates. Plus their FPV seems to be good enough that I can start without being pissed that I cheaped out. I'm in this for the experience, and I've gotten into alot of things in life, and I've learned that while its best to start at the bottom, sometimes low end is better than cheapest.

In fact ALL the parts from TBS that he used seem to be high quality and basically everything i'd need.
The problem is, I'm not finding a ton of information on the community's opinion on these products. How they compare. I want to belive that their a brand name that you can trust and depend on, but it seems espeically in these kinda industries, new products and tech are coming out all the time.

I dont know prices in general so I'd like to know, are they more expensive for their parts than shopping around? I'm not a shopper, I dont know enough about the parts to know what i'm buying.

Well the brand is generally pretty good, however never trust in just a brand. Futaba makes some of the highest quality radion, and if you get something off their higher end products you know it will be good, but if you buy their cheaper budget radio you will find that it is not any better than most other brands, if it is even as good as some of the other brands. You generally get what you pay for in this hobby as long as you are buying it from a reputable dealer or brand.

I'm looking to do more racing than anything else, I think a 250 is what i'm interested in, but it will be a slow start for me. Like I said, i'm starting off with an X4 little micro LOS, so i'll get some introduction, and when I do build my next one i will more than likely do what i can to govern the performance untill i'm ready to advance.

I'm not really an arial photographer so i'm looking for a fpv system that i can rely on, and Kinda be "futureproof" for the next while as I improve and push my limits as a pilot.

the selling point for me is how intuitive the design is, esc's are beefy, and easy to replace, everythign is tight and not taped to the arms of my quad, it can handle robust battery usage.
I like the idea that repairs wont be as big of a deal.


End of the day, I just want to fly and enjoy my drone.

I definitely get what you're saying. A brand is only as good as the product itself. I'm just wondering who out there is using these systems and how they contend. If I got good enough would I find myself wanting something different? I've seen no drawback as it seems to handle big battery big motors wouldnt you be able to compete with this?

If you are wanting something to be upgradable for the future then modular is the way to go. If something is modular, and a good company makes enough different modules in the direction that you want to go then you have an expandable tool for future upgrades. I'm not all that familiar with TBS stuff other than hearing about it for the last two years hahaha Never used it, but so far heard nothing but good.
