I guess its time to get the ball rolling on this one..I am however still waiting for the quad to arrive as a donor for the board and motors as well as the props.
Ive been talking to someone about a used frame and, they have what im looking for...Im just waiting to here back from them to send payment and have it shipped my way.
The frame is a PicnicQuads Efficiency X100 carbon fiber/birchwood core frame that will measure 100mm long with the motor holders installed and will be coming with the PicnicQuads 7mm protected motor holders.
Weight for the frame alone is advertised at 2.55g and, the protected motor holders at .26g each..So, a total of 3.59g for the frame assembly.
The donor quad for this project will be a Hubsan X4 H107L which is the version 2 of the original and has many improvements from the factory including, an upgraded FCB and, added lights as well as a much improved flight range of 100m from its original 30m distance.
The hubsan X4 is not a very light quad at close to 40g but, the performance however is very good for its weigh...The x4 FCB is among one of the better quality boards for "toy" quads.
The Hubsan 7x20mm motors have been tested as some of the best 7mm brushed motors out there and, should prove very reliable and very sporty with the considerable weight loss in mind.
The x4 props measuring at 55mm length are one of, if not the most efficient props made for micros and ,provide ample lift while drawing as little amperage from the motors as possible, making them a wonderful choice for longer flight times and performance, combined.
So now to just wait untill everything arrives to get started on this fun project.

Quick update...frame and motor holders purchased.
Mike H., Oct 18, at 11:59 PM
I decided to recheck the tracking number from banggood and it said it was delivered already..i figured a few more days but just got back from rushing to the post office to see i had a key to open a larger Po box to get it.
So here's the hubsan X4 H107L
Curiosity got me immediately to find the weight and my first thoughts of near 40g may have been the model with a camera or fpv...So without a camera such as mine, it weighs in at 35.3g as delivered with battery installed...still heavy but not too bad.
Now to wait for the frame which will be shipped monday.

It seems things you want so badly never get to you fast enough...Hopefully in a few more days ill have the frame and motor holders to get this going...The parts are coming from Maryland and tracking has showed it leaving from there today...Once anything hits Charleston, WV i know the next stop is the Po box in my little small town.

Well ,ask and you shall receive...Unless your asking your wife or girlfriend that is
I just got back from the post office a while ago to find the frame and motor holders as well as another set of motor holders as a surprise...Dear lord that frame is light as are the motor holders.
I will cut through alot of BS and get right down to the nitty gritty here.
To avoid cutting wires and re soldering, i just hacked up the frame (which was busted anyways) to remove all the electronics as one whole unit.
I will let some pics do the talking...Here is the electronics removed from the hubsan body/frame assembly in one piece. ( NO SOLDERING!!!!) And whats left of the hubsan body/frame
I took a weight of what all pieces i could find that didnt go flying during the cutting process and its a heavy set up...if i could find all the pieces it would show heavier but not by much. Maybe few tenths of a gram.
More to come shortly.

On to the good stuff...The frame is very nice looking and super light..Picnic advertises it at 2.55g and my scale not being as precision showed 2.5g so i would say the advertised weight is spot on.
I received 2 types of motor holders..One is known as a "protected motor holder which is tall and surrounds the motor for protection..Unfortunately i wont be able to use them unless i want to lengthen the motor wire, which i dont...A longer amount of wire is used up when sliding the motor down into the holder making them not quite long enough and putting alot of tension on them..so, im needing to use the shorter holders (which have stoppers at the bottom) to allow less wire used up to be fit properly.

So this is what she looks like semi mocked up.
..ill get a final weight and more pics once all finished and compare it to the stock 35.3g of the hubsan with stock battery.
